Hello,

I was just curious if we will get approved at the time of the interview like we did for the K1 interview, OR if they take time to decide if it's approved or denied?

Thanks :)

It can go either way, from what I've read and experienced. I think the most likely outcome is that you'd get a verbal approval, but no stamp in your passport or any other physical proof -- the card will be ordered into production that same day and it'll arrive in the mail in about a week/10 days. That's what happened with us.

However, some people get immediate approval and get the I-551 stamp in their passport, if the officer interviewing them is senior/high-placed enough to confirm the approval right away. I think there are only 2-3 officers per location that can do that, though, based on what the officer who interviewed us said (she verbally approved us and went looking for a higher-up to get us completely approved/stamped but they were all busy so we just had to leave and wait for the green card in the mail).

Finally, some people run into issues that still need to be clarified, like running background checks or adding in documents or waiting for things to be looked over, so there have been reports of people leaving the interview without approval or denial, and simply having to wait a week or two to find out their approval (by checking the USCIS status online).

We were told that my wife's AOS was approved at the end of the interview in Detroit. We did not get an I-551 stamp in her passport, however (nor did we ask for it since we had not immediate travel plans out of the country). We went back to the car to drive home; I had left my cell phone in the car since I could not bring it inside the USCIS building. A text and email from the USCIS was waiting for me when I looked at my phone before driving out. Card was in production a day or so later and it took 10 days for the USPS to deliver the green card to our house (despite it being sent via 2-day priority mail).

Awesome!

Our interview will also be in Detroit, any comments on how it went? If they were friendly, easy going, etc?

Congrats on your approvals :)

It was easy...wrote this review a while back:

My wife, who came into the USA on a K1 visa, and I checked in. We came alone without an interpreter or attorney. Her name was called and we followed the officer into his office. Before sitting down, we raises our right hands and swore to tell the truth.

We sat down and he looked through our file noting that she arrived legally on a K1 visa and that we got married within 90 of her entry and that everything looked good. He then asked us the various "have you ever..." questions in the i485 to which she answered "no" each time. He then asked about our jobs and we had a nice conversation about that. Then he said, "I'm going to grant your status" and told us that we should receive her conditional green card in 7-10 business days.

He instructed us what evidence we need to collect for the removal of conditions which we need to apply for within 90 days of expiration date of her conditional green card. Some of this was represented in documents we brought to the interview such as joint bank account statements, photos, joint utility bills, joint medical insurance documents, joint car title, and joint car insurance. The officer was very personable, professional, and helpful...we felt comfortable going into the interview and we left very happy.

N.B. The interview appointment notice lists a bunch of documents that you need to bring to the interview. We were prepared with a nice thick stack of papers containing originals and copies of each of these documents. During this interview, the officer did not request to see any of this stuff. But I would not advise anyone to blow off these instructions on the appointment notice. Our case is pretty solid with no red flags (our immigration attorney told us not to worry during the entire process). Now we can start booking trips out of the country including our honeymoon trip

Hello,

Thanks smile.png

We had to go to the Cleveland office last week and the officer told us after the (very short) interview that he would recommend approval of our petition. Monday I got two messages on my phone that our status had changed. So I went to the site and it was in the Card/Document Production stage. Later that same day I got another message saying the status changed again. So I go to the site and now it's in the Decision stage. First it said the card would be there in 30 days now it says 60 days. They sent a hard copy out Tuesday so I'll have to wait and see what's going on here. Not sure if there's a problem or not yet but it is kind of strange that the status changed twice in a day.
