We have scheduled our interview for the K-1 visa and it's not until the end of May. My fiancee wants to get her medical done in mid-April. Is there a certain time we should wait until? I know it tells us to do it at least one week away from the interview so that means any time before one week would be equally acceptable, right? We're just trying to have everything ready as soon as possible so we don't have to last minute anything.

Thanks!

Yep, youre right. You can even have it tomorrow if you want. Just keep in mind that medical is valid only for 6mos so makes sure her interview is within the timeframe (in your case, it's good) :) good luck

Just a quick clarification. I believe you must enter the US within 6 months of the medical. If you are planning to delay entry for whatever reason, keep this in mind.

I've seen a number of posts from Manila about having to get extra test/treatment (read delay) for TB so getting a clear medical sooner rather than later might be good.

Thats what i meant. He should make sure his fiancee will be interviewed within the 6mos timeframe, and of course, enter the US before the validity of the medical/visa ends.

Yes, as soon as you get the visa number and pay the visa fee, your fiance can have the medical exam done (first-come, first-serve). It would help to have either the email confirmation from NVC to bring at the medical exam, but my fiance didn't have it because she had her medical exam really soon after paying the fee (got visa # on a fri, paid on that mon, medical exam on that thurs).

All she had was her visa number, passport, & D-160. The guard asked for confirmation from NVC like an email, but let her through anyway

...medical exam is valid for six mos. so she can do it anytime she wants now and by the way med exam at st. lukes takes 2 days coz vaccination is scheduled on d 2nd day..good luck on ur journey:)

My fiance, and some others as well, were able to do everything in one day. she had the medical early in the morning, and done by around lunch. The nurses asked if she wanted to wait for the results to everything, which were available around 2:30. If everythin was clear, she would be able to receive the vaccinations right then and there.

Great that she passed the medical and therefore was able to receive the vaccinations.

She was able to complete everything in one day so she only missed one day of work

Thanks, guys and gals! We'll get on it right away!

Definitely good luck!!

Really, once you get your visa number from NVC, everything can move very very quickly if you get all the paperwork for the interview set ahead of time & get it to your fiance soon after getting the NOA2 letter from USCIS. Remember, a bunch of the documents you need to send have to be originally signed (no photocopies of signatures), so you have to mail it out. I used FedEx and paid around $60 and it got there in about 3 days.

Also, if you really want an early interview, after paying the visa fee (after NVC gives visa #) it takes a couple hours before you can get onto the online scheduler, but then my suggestion is to take the first date you can get (just so it is your backup), then religiously keep checking the website for any early dates that pop up.

When we did ours, we first got a date of May 5. Then 3 days later, at around 1:30 AM eastern time, I saw an interview date of March 12, & I jumped on that.

So, our interview is next Wed, but since we have everything else already done (NBI clearance, CENOMAR, current passport, medical exam, & originally signed papers from me - re-intent to marry letter, affidavit of support, tax returns, w2) we are good to go with a much earlier interview date.

But in order to be able to do that, you and your fiance have to have everything in order.

Now, instead of having to rush to get stuff together, we, especially my fiance can relax until the interview smile.png

Again, good luck to the two of you!good.gif

Your fiancee could have brought a copy of the interview confirmation email, SLEC is just as happy with that.
