So it would seem. I guess they like the idea of being marched on by Putin jackboots - every right wing American's wet dream I guess?

It's horrific to watch what is happening now. Every moment is getting worse and now has the chance of developing into a full scale war. It's a terrible lesson for all the left-wing naysayers in the press who did their best minimize Romney's points before the last election that Russia was NOT our friend. It's not nice to watch this, in fact it's pathetic. We need a qualified leader in charge now.

The US doesn't give a rats ### about the people of Ukraine. We spent $5 billion funding the right wing groups that destabilized Ukraine's government, and we got caught. No matter how it ends now, it will be pernicious to the Ukrainian people. A year from now when everyone else has forgotten about this, they'll still be eating bread crumbs.

I have more faith than that in America. German Chancellor Merkel recently said that she think's Putin is living in another world; most everyone in the EU thinks he's out of his mind. The Ukraine is of strategic interest to the US and will remain that way for a long time. This event won't be forgotten in a year, especially now that Russia is in the process of occupying the country. I'm sorry that the people of Ukraine are having to endure this, and unfortunately there isn't much to offer other than words right now.

and the stupid goes on. The US is only respected as a superpower when the preferred right wing president is in power? I got the memo now, I'll be sure to vote for the right president elect the next time, the one that will be approved by the crazy right wingers and this sort of thing will not happen again.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Not even close.

The US is respected when it's President is prepared to back up their words with actions, regardless of their political affiliation. I don't recall FDR or JFK being Republican.

Looking at the political scenario, it is not the country that is divided, so much as there is a rift in the GOP between the conservatives and the Teaparty Bullies fifth-columnists who have highjacked the party.

The country is very divided right now. You just prefer not to see it.

Maybe a Congress that doesn't undermine the President and his Office at every turn would help the credibility of the United States.

I see it very clearly. The Teaparty Bullies have divided the country with their rhetoric and partisanship. They highjacked the GOP and in the process created the rift of which you speak.

Maybe a President who makes sure that Congress will back his words before he opens his mouth to threaten consequences, or simply a President who intends to back his words with actions rather than bluff, would show the maturity and authority in a situation like this.

I think Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi had more than a passing hand in dividing this country, foisting unpopular policies on the country, ramping up the abuse of power in Congress. When the Democrats lose the Senate in November, it won't be the Tea Party that's to blame. Democrats will be looking closer to home than that.

This Congress has not and will not back anything this President does. Period. Let's not pretend otherwise. This Congress will oppose even that which the majority party in the House once proudly called its policy proposals. They oppose the President for the sake of opposing him. That's how bad it is. They will gamble with the full faith and credit of this nation if that is what they think it takes to damage the President. That destroys credibility no matter who the President is. Which is to say it destroys the credibility of the office. And no Congress prior to this one has ever done that in times of crisis.
