Hello,

Is it possible to file for Direct Consular Filing (DCF) for my mother living abroad while I reside in the United States? I read online that DCF will shorten the time it takes for the relative to obtain his/her green card (within 30 days). If so, how do I make it clear to USCIS and the US consulate that I am going for DCF, instead of the traditional process?

No. Direct Consular Filing, when it's available (and it seldom is, anymore) is only available when both the petitioner and the beneficiary are legally living in another country.

So if you had been living with your mother in, say, England (where DCF is allowed), it is possible that you might be able to petition via DCF for her to immigrate with you when you return. But if you live in the US, you're stuck with the old fashioned way.

DCF is for US citizens who reside abroad to bring their immediate relatives back to the USA with them. You will have to file the "traditional" way.

* I-130/CR-1 visa by Direct Consular Filing in London
3rd May 2013 - Married in London
7th May 2013 - I-130 filed
4th June 2013 - NOA2 (approved)
16th July 2013 - Interview (approved)
30th July 2013 - POE San Francisco
29th August 2013 - 2 year green card arrived

* Removal of Conditions (RoC) via California Service Centre
1st May 2015 - 90 day RoC window opened
6th May 2015 - I-751 filed (delivered 8th May, cheque cashed 18th May)
7th August 2015 - Approved / GC production

* Naturalisation (Citizenship) via Phoenix Lockbox
