I'm sorry to give you bad news, but you need to be a permanent resident for three years, minus the 90 days plus married to a USC for those three years in order to apply for citizenship. Its not all that much longer at least.

Just got mail from USCIS (California) on Friday with the beginning sentence "CONGRATULATIONS...", which is a dead giveaway without reading any further that our application was approved! I'm surprise how fast the process completed when there's a lot of discussion threads out there about delays, lost application, RFE's, interviews, etc, etc, etc.

Ours went surprisingly smoothly with no interviews or RFE's. We filed it ourselves believing that hiring/paying an attorney for this application is unnecessary since we do not have any past issues with immigration law. I'm quite detail oriented and did file with a lot of "evidence". We would suggest a few steps that should always be included with your application along with ample paper documents/evidence.

Our documents were compiled in one of those 2 punch holes on the top of the letter size documents (which are all photocopies, except for the application form and of course the check itself). There were printed one sided and the thickness were little over 3 inches! So we had a folder with a partition to divide the docs into 2 sections. On the very front it has:

1. packet declaration such as "I-751 PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS ON RESIDENCE" next line the PR applicant full name, date, A# (don't forget to write out I751 application on the front envelope, lower right)

2, cover letter (samples here in this site) with list of documents named

3. table of contents, with all pages numbered

We think including these few initial/introductory pages are helpful and courteous. We're sure the reviewing officer would appreciate a more organized package compared to one without any header or indexing/contents listing. I'm sure they deal with god knows how many applications per day!

4/14/2014 - USPS priority mail with complete I751 application to the CSC office

4/21/2014 - USPS tracking confirmed delivery/acceptance (there seem to be a mail delay taking 7 days!)

4/25/2014 - NOA I797 (letter itself is evidence/travel doc for 1 year extension to conditional PR) and I797c ASC appointment notice

5/14/2014 - biometric appointment done

no word...then

6/26/2014 - approval letter received, I551 card production order initiated

Congrats to you :)
