Interesting, but I don't think so. Russia and China are strong allies, so they're already on Russia's side. Their ideologies are not as matched today as they were in post WWII, but still good. Young Chinese like the West, and their parents push their child to a Western education. There is a strange expectation among Westerners that every country should behave, think, and embrace Western culture. The people of China are quite happy with respecting the sovereignty of foreign countries, but get their panties in a wad when a foreigner steps inside their borders with a list of how to do it better.

China only cares about china. They don't give a ####### about western culture or Russia for that matter, they simply will not get involved with anything that isn't something they have their sights on. And then there's the money. Look at their trade with the us as well as what they have tied up in us debt. If the us goes down, they are going to have a really hard time. They're not dumb, more like a silent partner on the international scene and playground bully on the local scene.

Likely scenario. Ukraine will separate. The south and east will vote to secede and join Russia. That means most of the industry in Ukraine and the military installations in Crimea will be part of Russia. The EU and NATO will then drop Ukraine like a hot potato.

Obama will issue increasingly strong warnings to Russia periodically until he's forced to use his strongest warning ever and then he'll give up and move on to the next thing he wants to take a half-assed swing at.

The other scenario, I guess, would be war.Hard to imagine any scenario that China would get involved.

I worked for several years in China right alongside some of the most brilliant economists and computer engineers I've ever seen. After Mao Zedong died in 1976, Deng Xiao Ping told the people of China that it's "glorious to be rich."

Since that day, China became a strange and unique mix of communism and capitalism. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continues a firm hold on its people. They are making several lame attempts to modernize, but China culture is also changing. Throughout every province of China, the CCP actively scouts out the best and the brightest to join its team of economists and computer engineers. They are dispersed around the world to receive the best education possible, and then return home to work. The families of these best and brightest are well-cared for, and given large homes, money, and gifts.

There are several million of these young engineers who work 24 hours a day monitoring Internet activity in their own country and around the world. They have gathered a database of key vulnerabilities in which they may covertly compromise banking, communication, and other systems. So, when you say China will do 'nothing', you can be sure that's exactly what they want the world to think. If by nothing, you mean not engaging in an armed conflict, you are most likely 100% correct. The kind of conflict they are engaged hand-in-hand with Russia involves a covert war in cyberspace and the manipulation of the international banking system.

That has not worked so well. Even before the Ukraine crisis the Ruble had been depressed, and now is at probably the lowest I can remember in the last 10 plus years. 36+ Rubles to the Dollar.

Right. Outside of the power players in government, Russia is pretty much a mess. However, China has risen to the second strongest economy in the world, and its yuan gathers strength every day.

The major reasons that Russia and China are relatively friendly. Russia has oil and gas and China needs the same. China sells almost as much ####### to the Russians as they do to the US. They share a border and Chinese vastly outnumber Russians.
