Yes POTUS is responsible for foreign policy and carrying out that policy.

American foreign policy is not dependent one one man. Are you saying that you believe that had Mitt Romney been president at this time the US would just ignore external politics and engage in isolationist policies? Or are you saying that the US should have engagedin protracted military intervention in Syria and first strike against the Russians now? I am a bit perplexed as to why you believe it's Obama and everyone else but not you that is laughable. Are you not a US citizen? Do you only recognize someone as president if you voted for them?

Yes he can

Who's he? What's your contribution by the way? Driving through a thread to make a personal attack is not part of the new VJ code of conduct, so make a point or go away.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Reported. I said nothing to you

You are blaming Obama personally for weakness when you should in fact be questioning US foreign policy in its entirety. Do you think that the US should in fact withdraw from world politics? Or do you think that the US should and must stand up to countries like Russia that crush neighbouring sovereign nations? It's not about Obama, it's not about the POTUS, it's about the US relationship with the rest of the world. It's easy to blame Obama instead but why would you want to do the easy, irresponsible thing? Isn't that unamerican?

Yes Obama is the POTUS and he is a weak incompetent man that fools have elected. We can and will point this out. Unlees Obama is going to do something real here then he needs to shut up and step aside and let real Statesmen handle this.

If the President is not responsible for foreign policy, why does he make statements threatening consequences, if he does not have the power to follow through on them?

Winning in ukranaine is not feasible for the us. He shouldn't put himself in a situation to have his bluff called, especially on something that has no effect on us. Let the Europeans deal with it, if they want. You want to peal Ukrainian away from Russia, you'll need more than words.

Fighting a war in the Ukraine against Russia would be one of the dumbest moves any president could make. If we had a "strong" president that lead us down this path, it would be a disaster. We shouldn't put ourself in a situation where this would be required.

Exactly. Why would he open his mouth on something that is none of our concern that he can't back up

In 25 years of management and troop leadership, I found one of the worst things you can do is make a warning that you can't act on

Your troops or employees will eat you alive.

The simple response is that President Obama has threatened consequences and President Putin appears to be daring him to follow through on them.

All of this ignores the bigger picture, which is a whole lot bigger than the simple picture above paints.

Kind of late for that now. Probably would have been a good time to think about consequences back in November, before everyone started meddling around in Ukraines internal affairs. The big miscalculation, IMO, was no one in the west envisioned the right wing Svoboda party becoming such a dominant player. That, more than anything is what triggered the events in the east and south.

My wife was watching one of the Russian channels today and told me they had a poll where eighty percent of people responding supported sending troops when the "peaceful demonstrators" from Kiev show up in Crimea. Think we'll have that kind of support here and in Europe for sending in troops?

I agree. Obama needs to stop looking so stupid. It is not our fight. A strong POTUS would not look so inept here. Stop drawing lines in the sand that are hollow.

See the 'line in the sand' from Obama? Am I the only one that laughed hard at the attempt?

Yes he is. I do like he is showing how weak they all are.

Yes, because nothing is more impressive than a petty dictator in action.

I can see where Russia has a very important interest in the region, but I don't think that it is exciting or fun to watch this play out.

You do realise that the way you come off is as if you admire Putin's balls and wish Obama were more like him, don't you? That's ironic Either he's a dictator consumed with his own power and ready to overthrow the US for Obamatopia or he's a weak president incapable of fighting his way out of a wet paper bag. He can't be both. I still have yet to hear what you think the US foreign policy should be. Should the US simply ignore Putin and his interference in neighboring soverieng powers? Would that make the US look strong?
