The absence of a military response, on the part of the EU nations, the US, or the UN will further cement President Putin's sense of Russian invulnerability. Western foreign policy credibility will end up in the toilet.

The only thing that could make it worse would be if the Ukraine military responded, then requested, but didn't receive support. Leaving another ally hanging out there alone would be unconscionable.

There will not be a military response as that would mean a war with Russia. An unwinnable war I might add. Also the fuel pipelines running through the Ukraine will be stopped during the response.

Ukraine would be stupid if they try to respond militarily. Ukraine has to now go and beg Russia to just stop in the Crimea. I suspect that Ukraine wll end up losing more than the Crimea but hopefully Putin will be satisfied.

Not ruling them out at all. They will respond when Russians start their move into eastern and southern Ukraine. Ukraine will be left with no ports at all but the northern will be allowed to be European. The Russian moves into the eastern part will be to protect Russian interests. Ukraine will cry for help but be left helpless. Obama will again will draw another line in the sand before the next tee time.
