Hi Saylin & VJers

just wanna ask if it'll have a problem if I only put my husband's first name and last name on my agents info on DS-261? or it should be a completer name including his second name? im really getting frustrated right now and thinking of things/reason why our IV fee is not yet invoiced even though I know its coz of the backlog. would NVC email us if somethings wrong with the DS-261?

Hey, can i ask, what letter did the NVC send you? What does it say and was it posted to Singapore? I believe you can used this. I was told by NVC that they do not send a letter? Had you signed up to e-mail correspondence...

Also last question I promise, how long after you got your case number did you get the letter?

yes i've signed up for email correspondence but i was surprised they sent me a letter. it's from nvc saying about my case number, iin and beneficiary which is the first email i got from them.. maybe it's just the hard copy it took more than a month i think.. but anyway im glad coz they already know my address here.

Hi Saylin, DS-260 was completed 01/31. Sorry for your loss. May she rest in peace.

Updated!

And thank you. It's been exactly one month today...

First of all you should be calling NVC to find out when (and if) they received your case from USCIS. Once you know when NVC received it, count about 30 working days for getting your Case # etc. Again, you should start calling them after about 15 ~20 working days (from NVC receipt date) to get your Case #, Invoice Identification # and also to provide them with your email ID and beneficiary email ID.

Also, have you read Ms Saylin's first two posts at the beginning of this thread. I actually printed them out and kept them next to my computer. They are immensely helpful.

star_smile.gifstar_smile.gifstar_smile.gif

hey Saylin,

what exactly does th e status "Ready" mean ?

Cuz my status is showing "ready" whereas dhl tracking shows it hasnt even reached the embassy. lol

They didn't have this system when I was going through :P It's relatively new. I found this handy dandy website for the meanings though: http://blogs.usembassy.gov/malaysia/2012/12/27/check-the-status-of-your-visa-online-ceac-status-check/ (make sure you scroll down to the 'Statuses for IV Applicants' section.

hi everyone, I've been away for a while (family emergency) so I'm a bit behind on the posts...congratulations to everyone whose case is moving forward

saylin, please update me on your spreadsheet....IV and AOS sent on 3/6/2014....DS260 submitted 3/5/2014

Updated!

Hi Saylin

Just when I thought I had nothing left to worry about something else crops up! I saw a post earlier about filing taxes as single or married and I spoke to my wife and she has filed as single this year even though we were married! :-/

She was advised to do this by her employer because I do not currently live in the States and do not have a SSN etc.

I've read contrasting advice on this. Some posts say the consulate does not care which way you file and others say it can raise a red flag.

It's too late to change now as everything has been accepted by NVC, so I'm hoping you have some good news for me!

Are we likely to be ok?

Cheers

You can read my thoughts about filing single at the bottom of post 2. If you can't amend the taxes before the interview, it might be okay as you're going through the UK (not exactly a high fraud country).

If it makes you feel any better, I had a very near oopsie. I had put my packet together and was finalizing taking out the paper clips and attaching with a binder clip, and I went to the post office and got back to my office to discover my paystubs and my employment letter sitting on my desk. I had to race back to the post office and they opened it up so I could put the docs in with the packet. Thankfully the post office is only a minute away from my office. I was seriously cursing myself!

Thanks Salyin

If we do make an amendment should we let NVC know or just take them to the interview? It will take around 8 weeks to get the amendment so this will delay our case if we have to wait to send it to NVC.

Also, do you think making an amendment from single to married will raise any red flags? And will we have to hand this new one over at the interview regardless of whether the question the single status or not as technically they will not be in possession of our latest tax return.

Thanks so much for your help

At the stage you're at, it's just best to bring the updated tax transcripts to the interview. And you probably don't even need to mention it as I doubt the officers at the UK will care, but if they do, you'll have them on hand to give over.

And no, if it does come up, just explain you were wrongly informed to file single. But you caught the mistake and amended it.
