Does uscis send automatic updates during the nvc stage?

Automatic as in what?

At NVC they send you the emails about AOS and IV. If you have no errors you don;t get a checklist from them. For people who are error free after submitting their AOS and IV packages you will get a case complete email 1 week after actually case complete (Most have already called and know this).

Then next email is Interview letter. That's it NVC is done with you.

Case Complete to Interview spreadsheet

From now on your VJ Member name will be verified. If the name you put on form to be added to spreadsheet comes up not found, you will not be added to the spreadsheet. If you don't have a timeline you will not be added to the spreadsheet.

This is regarding my address change. I am the principal applicant/beneficiary and am at the NVC stage now. I plan to move out of the house where I have been living which is the address that I had as my current address in the i130 form. I wish to change the address in the DS 260 and i86f ez. I have already changed the address in the D 261 (choice of address and agent form). Is this likely to lead to any complication given that the consulate might be sending me something through postal mail too?

In the mail we got from NVC with our case and IIN numbers, it does mention that I can convey the change of address. Would like to know from people who might have done, is it advisable to do it. I am still not very clear if there is going to be any communication from NVC or the Consulate by postal mail.

If you provided emails to NVC nothing will come via postal mail. Many change address at Ds-260. That is the address that you need to be firm on because that is the address where the green card will come.

You are the beneficiary there is no need to be updating everywhere. The US address is what that's important to update USCIS and NVC and on DS-260. But DS-260 should have your most current address.

I would like to ask anyone who hired a lawyer to process your papers. my husband paid 4,000 US$ to our attorney and I want to know if it is a normal fee. I feel sorry for my husband coz he worked hard for that money. They don't do their job well, I was the one who always make a way to get information from USCIS and NVC. And I was the one who first to know that we got approved and also the NVC (thanks to VJ members) then informed our lawyer. I work more than them What should we do?

I initially thought of the lawyer that helped my brother with a very complicated case. This person was awesome; always on the ball and proactive with all the steps. However, I got discouraged when he told me his services were $800 for the USCIS stage and then $1500 for the NVC stage, per person (I have my wife and daughter) and not including the fees I had to pay to Uncle Sam. He did offer to lower his NVC charge if I was willing to fill out all the paperwork and use him only as a consultant. I figured my case was pretty straightforward, so I ventured to do the entire process on my own without lawyer or consultant. Then what do you know, during my web research I came to find out about this wonderful site.

Not sure you can do much at this point about your lawyer. Just feel fortunate that you were able to help your lawyer help you. Every so often we read some bad stories about lawyers not fully knowing the shortcuts and them being the cause of the delays.

If later you need to adjust your permanent status or decide to go the citizenship route, then now you know where else to come, other than to a lawyer.

Good luck!

The address that I will be giving for the green card to be sent will be the US address, right?

In the DS260, I will be giving my current address as my last stayed address and will be giving the previous addresses as well. The current address is what I have in my i130. This is the address that I don't intend to stay at after April. Does this change of change of address have any consequence in the visa process?

I personally have no idea why someone would use a more complicated form than you need to. Both saylin and I used the I-864ez with no issues. Less questions = less spots to mess up.

I think they are concerned about having non-W2 incomes on their tax-return even though they qualify with the W2 incomes. There is enough ambiguity in people's mind that they are afraid of getting checklist for the wrong form. Whether that's warranted is another question.

All I can say is I was happy fill out the 864EZ compared to the 864. My guess would be the reviewer would be happier to review the former as well, just a guess though....

I agree with you and I already filled out 864-EZ; but then read other posts on VJ, and decided to use 864, just to be on safe side: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/483206-nvc-filers-march-2014/?p=6911843

Thanks.

I actually used I-864EZ. The thing is that if you are only using your income/salary and nothing else or no one else but you then I-864EZ is much easier to fill out without any complications or confusions.

No Ds-261 for them they have a lawyer. Once you log in and you are invoiced you should have AOS and IV bill invoiced together when that time comes.

Why not give them lawyers and petitioner or Beneficiary doesn't really matter. Looks like you are all talking to each other so thats good.

ok thanks, I will give them the lawyers and mine then, and hope nothing gets confused. My husband was worried things would get mixed up with who was the agent if i interfered.. i just know i can speed things along as thre is no way he would be getting up at 7am to call lol.

I would like to ask anyone who hired a lawyer to process your papers. my husband paid 4,000 US$ to our attorney and I want to know if it is a normal fee. That seems a lot- I think ours was more in the 2000 range

Hi there,

Look, we also hired an attorney and I have to say that they have been fantastic. Their advice has been invaluable. They are a specialist Immigration Firm who have offices in the US and here in Australia. Fee-wise it has been a little expensive but with our children away from their Dad for far too long - and me as well - we thought we would spend the money. We were concerned that if even one little thing was wrong on any of the forms it could set us back a couple of months.

The fees were: I-130 $2,000 and now NVC $3,500 plus photocopying and any couriers that are needed. It is an expensive process and we haven't even bought our flights yet!!!

Anyone have any rough idea regarding how long it takes for the DS 261 to be accepted after the IV packet, AOS packet, DS260, and both fees have been paid?? Thank you.

The IV fee being invoiced means the DS-261 has already been accepted.

does NVC use the term "packet IV" anymore? seems they just call it "Supporting Documents": http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents.html

Just curious as to what to call this package on my cover letter
