So our documents were marked as delivered on March 7th, today we got a false checklist for AoS. I wonder how long it takes from here. Do they count review days from scanning (scary thought) or physical receipt?

I'm the beneficiary.

Don't have a timeline? Don't know how to get started with it? Do it for the statistics sake: VJ video guide

Filing for a USC spouse visa (IR-1/CR-1) and not sure what comes next? Check out the VJ IR-1/CR-1 guide

Want to know what's happening with your case? Here's the USCIS tracking page (get an account and see if the case's been 'touched'!). Don't get your hopes up though, some cases never even appear there despite being successfully processed.

We did ours with the 'NRA' option. I could not find a way to electronically file it. We had to file the hardcopy, via USPS. This will take longer.

Also, if you file as MFJ, you both have to sign the return. If you have power of attorney for your spouse, you can sign for both. My option was to email a pdf version to my husband. He printed and signed it, included it with other original papers we need for the NVC.

When you submit it to the IRS, use USPS Priority mailing option and get the Certified green, return card option as well (should cost about $11.60 per mailing; federal and state tax offices). Then, make an account on the IRS.gov site and you can track the progress of when they receive the federal tax and when it is processed. There are also apps for the iPhone, for the tracking. If you have the time, you can do it this way.

Hope this can help you.

Hi Saylin,

On my tax return. I told my accountant to put NRA however he put down "Applied for". he said he called the IRS and that's what they told him to put. I hope he didn't screw up anything.......grrrrrrr

Hi..

Are you feeling Joint or separate tax return ?

My accountant did same thing ..

I put my tax return on hold until I do not find correct answer for it.

But I was thinking to put NRA in stead of Applied for.

Hi there,

Married filed separate.

thanks,

gill8g, on 19 Mar 2014 - 7:14 PM, said:snapback.png

I am not sure how it applies when you file as MFS, but for the MFJ option, I entered NRA (non-resident alien) for my spouse's SSN. It was accepted by the IRS. The electronic versions would not take it. an error message kept coming up.

The 'APPLIED FOR' option means you have a pending ITIN (W7) application. I did not have that. That option may allow you to get a higher tax return. If there is no actual SSN or pending ITIN for the spouse, the IRS will deduct a percentage from the return. If you truly have a pending ITIN, then, it sounds like your tax preparer did the right thing to get you the most out of your return.

I am no expert on these things, but had to do the research for my personal return and am just providing what happened in my experience. You all should definitely contact your tax preparer and find out why they did it, if it is okay and if it is the best option for you.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi, my husband's tax preparer filed his taxes as "married filing jointly (MFJ)," and under the SSN he wrote "applied for." I don't know if he applied for the ITIN or not.

Just got off the phone with nvc and they said 8 weeks for a case #. I texted my lawyer and she's going to put in a request. I'm not sure if that does anything?

Unless you have expedite its 27 business days to get a case number

Today I went and got my Police Clearance Certificate from the Passport Seva Kendra. Before going, I had asked around if the PCC would carry my photo and someone had said no. Well maybe previously they did not put in the photo, now they capture the image on the spot and put it on the PCC. Since I had a passport issued last year and address was same as that of the passport, I did not have to wait a month for the PCC and I stepped out of the PSK in 1 hour and 15 minutes. The documents needed were the online payment challan, appointment copy, passport copy, original passport. I was asked to write a letter addressed to EPO stating the reason for PCC and for which country. The fingerprints were also scanned. Two PCCs were given. Though I carried the NOA2 copy, it was not asked. Now I just need one document and I am ready to mail the IV package documents to my husband. It has been 20 days since approval.

you can file form G-884 to get your original documents back from USCIS.

It is free of charge (no filling fee).

Good luck.you can find it here:

http://www.uscis.gov/g-884

Thank you for this information. USCIS requested our original marriage certificate and I think now we need to file this form to get it back.

lol true ..... but shipping out of USCIS is not the problem but actually getting to NVC and from there being uploaded into their system ....thats the worst part. its really taking them about 25 business days. And thats means with weekends and holidays and what not ... you are looking at atelast month and a half .... lol. Talk about being quick.

She is lucky to have been shipped out quickly and yes, that is also a huge problem for some people whose cases are not shipped even after one month of approval.

I've finished USCIS stage recently and waiting for NVC to pick up my file.

I went through NVC processing file, and noticed there's a few CSC approved files that's routed to NVC and assigned case number very quickly, some files were assigned case # even in a few days after NVC received. Anyone knows what was speeding up those files?
