It depends on your household size. A new guideline gets released every March 1st. Here's the 2014 one:

http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2014-01-22/html/2014-01303.htm

Take note that this is the Federal guideline. USCIS/NVC requires you to make 125% (military personnel only needs 100%) of the dollar amount for your household otherwise you would need a joint sponsor (or use assets).

Saylin, My condolences to you and your family sad.png

So basically for a family of 2 (lets say her mum and dad) for her mum to sponsor me they need to earn, roughly, $20,000? seems low….

Also, my wife did earn quite a bit in the 2013 tax year, she is just filing her 2013 taxes now, however as she is taking a year out to study this year and not earning, can she sponsor me based on her 2013 earnings? or as she is a full time student in the UK does this mean she cannot?

Also, we do have cash saved in the US (Account is in joint names), how much do we need to qualify on cash savings alone as I did see somewhere that it is not all taken into account?

Yes I agree it's fairly low but those are the rules.

If they sponsor you, household size should be at least 3 (mum, dad, and you). If she is included, then 4.

If you plan to do the AOS this year, then she would need 2014 income. I am not sure but I think 1/3 of assets count. Try to download the USCIS form I-864 and it's corresponding instructions. It should give you a fair idea on how the calculation works.

All -

Sorry if this has been answered already.

I call NVC to inquire whether they have received my case. The representative mentioned that it may take 8 weeks to send the letter regarding receipt of my case at NVC. This seems excessive!

I can keep calling NVC every week to inquire whether they have received the letter. If I call them excessively, would it backfire against me. What if they find my calling a nuisance and retaliate by deliberately delaying the case? Is this a potential?

Thanks.

Hi saylin and everyone i have a question again, my husband sent the aos package together with i130 (hoping it would take faster processing) so far we have paid the aos bill and it shows paid already in the system. Questions:

1. Will you receive an email for what to send in the aos package? Coz we did not receive anything i was wondering if they dont need it anymore and when i called in the rude lady told me to resend because cis and nvc are different agencies. She said i wont get any email about that coz its in the website and should just refer there, but then my cousin received an email for instructions how come i didnt? But yeah will you receive any instructructions what to send in the package?

2. We received an email to pay the IV BILL. shall we just go ahead and pay even if we are not settled with the aos package thing?

Really confused now. pls help Thanks!

There should be no "backfire against you" just because you call them, I am sure you are polite in your conversations.

I call them on Tuesdays and Thursdays of every week since my case arrived at NVC (2/14); they tell me it takes 30 business days; I do not argue with them because I know this timeline is normal by looking at others' timeline, so I just say thanks to them and hang up. I expect my case # to be assigned by 3/14. Please fill in your time line, and kindly also put it in your signature, so we know how long it is since your case arrived at NVC.

Good luck.

Yes they will send you an instruction letter about AOS documents but mine took a little while and doesn't matter if they have email or none as long as you send all the required documents especially the I-864 with signature and the bar coded cover sheet. And you may proceed paying the IV bill as long as it's already available in the payment portal. Please check my signature about my AOS & IV. Good luck smile.png
