I have a friend who's LPR mother petitioned daughter over 21 yrs old. The case is already at NVC, PD 2/16/2011. The petitioner went back to the her home country last year for good. So she will be abandoning US as LPR. My friend is wondering what will happen to the petition of her sister? is it going to be void? or can she continue the petition as sister of the beneficiary? Will appreciate your inputs

If the petitioner abandoned his Greencard it will affect the beneficiary, they will hold the applicaton of the beneficiary.

THe consul will request the petitioner to schedule an appointment with them.

Your friend has an interesting situation. The likely LPR abandonment is a problem.

Your friend should likely :guides: in particular, the How Do I Bring a Sibling to Live in the US Guide:

Good luck.

Petition automatically gets voids when the mother abandoned her LPR status.

There is no switching petitioners.

If your friend wants to have a petition for her sister, then she files a new I-130 and the sister gets in back of the line.

All I can say is weird.

Aaron said it but just wonder where the other responses are coming from?
