is there a type of e-notification for the AOS case as there was with the k1 petition? something where you can track the status?

You can send the G-1145 form to be notified when your application is received You can use your case # from the receipt notice to check your status on the same USCIS site for case status updates you used for the K-1.

I think you've posted this question in the wrong place. You're waiting for word from the embassy? This forum is for after the K1/2 has been used, and applying for a greencard.
