I didn't miss his message. It's the same old song the keeps emerging from the black community. Blame whites and non-blacks for all life's difficulties and misfortunes and make them responsible for fixing it.

So, you're saying there is no racism. It's funny how the folks who are the most far removed from the black community feel compelled to speak about it at every turn.

Pretending that Spike Lee's rant is racist is what's ignorant. However, it's true that it was couched in vulgar language and that was probably done deliberately to upset people just like you.

I can hold out hope that one day you will allow people who disagree with you to not be labeled as ignorant. Just like you, I'm entitled to my opinion. I don't find you as being ignorant. I simply find that we disagree on the fundamental cause of this problem.

I don't think anyone here is saying there is no racism. Racism is an unfortunate fact of life from members of every community - including from some whites and some blacks.

But cries of racism by whites here are misplaced. His rant IS racist, and doesn't matter whether he ever was the victim of racism. Two wrongs don't make a right. And one would have to be stupid to think that he was not directing his venom at whites.

Also: Funny how no one complained about Spike Lee moving into our overwhelmingly white neighborhood many years ago. So, really, who are the tolerant ones???

One other thing: before you reflexively agree that Spike must be right, that the city didn't provide proper services to this neighborhood, etc. -- and I don't know specifically about his trash collection frequency, nor do I care - understand that these inner city neighborhoods are showered with our taxpayer money for all sorts of programs, benefits, and income transfers, many of which are of dubious value and/or counterproductive.

If you read his article, he said his rant wasn't directed towards whites. And the folks that live in those neighborhoods, I've talked to them. He's not lying. My mentor David, lived in a city called Lafayette Gardens, right next to Fort Greene, where Spike grew up. He said the first thing the new Mayor did was remove the police station from the neighborhood. He watched as his it went from nice to slums.
