Inhofe: 'Fewer and Fewer' Senators Support Global Warming 'Hoax'

Sen. Jim Inhofe has launched a new attack on charges of climate change, claiming that "fewer and fewer" senators believe in the "hoax," especially in the light of the recent record cold spell.

In an interview on WABC-AM, the Oklahoma Republican said that some people are pushing their "green schemes" agenda on the public using scientific theory, Rawstory reports.

“They don’t get away with it in the eyes of the American people,” said Inhofe, who has written a book on the subject called The Greatest Hoax. “I find fewer and fewer members of the United States Senate that are sympathetic to this whole cause.”

Inhofe told talk show host Aaron Klein that he was interested in former Vice President Al Gore's claim about global warming until Democrats began passing tougher new environmental controls that was hurting business.

“Those who have read my book...know that this goes way back a long period of time, started by the United Nations,” Inhofe said. “When they first started talking about the Kyoto Treaty [President Bill] Clinton and Gore, they were all excited about it, and they never submitted it for ratification because they didn’t have the votes.

"But anyway, that’s when the whole global warming thing started, and frankly, Aaron, I thought there might be something to it – until we found out the cost it would be to the United States of America of $300 billion to $400 billion a year.”

But Inhofe's claim that fewer senators believe in climate change appears to contradict a Pew Research Center poll last year that more and more Americans believe scientific evidence supports theories that global warming is caused by mankind.

However, a majority of Americans gave it a low ranking compared to many other issues faced by the country such as the economy, unemployment and the budget deficit.

In the radio interview, Inhofe alleged that in 2009 hackers stole emails from British scientists that proved climate change was a conspiracy.

"Then we pursued some of these fine scientists who said that the U.N. had rigged the science; then of course in 2009 when ClimateGate came, people realized the United Nations committee, the IPCC, had rigged the science on this thing,” Inhofe added.

“Now they’re trying to say this cold thing we’re going through now is just a bump in the climate. That isn’t true at all. It is a hoax.”

Last week Inhofe said on the Senate floor that the Obama administration had enacted costly environmental measures based on flawed climate science, adding that overregulation was to blame for the high rates of unemployment.
