If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

A couple of points to say here

The Black Panther clip with Bobby Seale speaking is worth noting because it was the conservative darling, Ronald Reagan who as governor signed a law especially aimed to disarm the Black Panther Party for Self Defense (it's original name before shortening it).

http://communities.washingtontimes.com/neighborhood/common-sense-conservative/2013/jul/22/what-would-reagan-and-black-panther-party-think-gu/

The Mulford act prevented people from carrying loaded firearms in public. It was the most sweeping gun control legislation EVER signed in the U.S at that time. The BPP carried weapons on neighborhood patrols to protect people from widespread police misconduct and outright murder by law enforcement. Once that law passed and along with COIINTELPRO it was open season. So what the video left out is that Reagan who is the rights main man, totally screwed the pooch when it came to the NRA and gun control.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/01/17/the-long-history-of-the-nra-and-the-gop/

“While we recognize that assault-weapon legislation will not stop all assault-weapon crime, statistics prove that we can dry up the supply of these guns, making them less accessible to criminals,” Reagan, former Republican president Gerald Ford, and former Democratic president Jimmy Carter wrote in a letter to law makers.

The other point worth noting here is that the Black community has disproportionately been the victim of gun violence probably more so than most communities.I personally don't think banning guns or crippling the 2nd am. is the solution - I really don't know what the solution to gun violence is but I think it would have to be a multi-tiered approach.

I am for a reasonable approach to gun control. Enforce the current laws on the books, close the gun show loop holes, modernize the background checks so that it is faster and more efficient and keeps people who do not need to have guns (criminals, mental ill) from obtaining them. There are already strict restrictions on military grade weapons which I am in favor of. No I don't think the 2nd amendment gives you the right to have an M60 gun nest in your bedroom window or a SAM in your backyard.

It's like most issues when it comes to the Right in this country. You guys tend to have a bunch of nuts on your team. The biggest nut is the NRA. I do not like the NRA and I do not support them, they are too politicized and seem to attract the nuttiest of the nutty bunch. They wield too much power in this country, like most lobby groups.

Anyway thanks for sharing that moment in Black history with all of us. I didn't know you cared so much whistling.gif
