SS# Issue with CR-1 Visa

So heres the basic background. The wife came over here on her CR-1 Visa in early December. She had filled out the DS-230 box saying "Apply for SS#" or whatever it says. After not receiving the SS card after about 4 weeks of her arrival, she went into the local SS office and they found nothing on her in the system, so she filled out an application and they said it would take anywhere from 3-6 weeks. Well, after 5 weeks, she went into the SS office again, and they said they couldnt look up any information on it and that she would have to wait 2 more weeks, then apply again.

Should be noted, we are in Fayetteville NC, which is notoriously bad for any form of public service, especially from the government agencies.(had a tax issue with IRS that was resolved instantly by simply going to Raleigh).

Now, Ive done some searching on here about social security numbers and from what Ive read, people are saying that after 2 days you can go back and get the number, but not the actual card. When she went back after 4 weeks, they told her absolutely nothing. Nothing other than they "cant look it up any specifics in the system" and that she would have to wait 2 more weeks.

Now were getting to the 2 week stage and it just seems ridiculous that were gonna have to start this whole thing over again, when it seems most people get their SS card long before their green card...well, we got our green card over a month ago and still no sign of the SS card.

Anyone have any kind of insight or ideas? Its really frustrating.

Go to Raleigh???

They have to find the immigrants name in the SAVE database so they know the immigrant status with USCIS and the right to be issued a SSN. The people that go back to get the number before the card is received were found in the database and a number has been generated already.

It sounds like you wife's immigrant status was not found. What name is on her I-94? If it is her maiden name and you applied in her married name, then maybe that is the problem. Now that a greencard is issued, her name in the database should be her greencard name. Go to a different office or ask for a supervisor to do a little digging to find her name is all I can suggest. If the greencard is brand new, then wait 10 days for the new status to show up in the SAVE database.
