Why not encourage them to learn a trade? Skilled tradesmen earn good money, industry is crying out for them and the likelihood of unemployment is extremely low.

No, it's not a college degree. But the likelihood of employment is higher, the burden of debt is lower, or non-existent and skilled tradesmen are in demand across the country.

The best part is that skills are colour-blind, at least in the areas of construction I have seen.

And this Administration, just like the last, is pushing hard to ensure that American citizens are further marginalised by legalising the status of these illegal aliens, under the guise of comprehensive immigration reform, and cutting back on workplace enforcement of immigration law and the consequences companies face by breaking it.

Training un- and under-employed American citizens in a skilled trade should not be regarded as the difficult course and discarded in favour of the cheap, easy and illegal fix. It is a betrayal of those American citizens, many of whom are young and black, who would jump at the opportunity, if it was offered them.

Because he wants them to have a shot at college. There's nothing wrong with skill trade, I went to a school like that for a year, learned Computer Data Processing way back then. Looking back, I wish I would have gone to college and gotten a degree.
