Obama embracing lame-duck status, preparing for post-Presidential career helping young black men

  1. 1. Obama is "plotting a return to the issues that have been central to his own life and will continue to shape generations of young black men after he leaves the White House".

    • His focus on "young black men" proves that he is a racist who hates white people. He is a divider, not a uniter.
    • His focus on "young black men" is just him doing what he knows best. It's not racist, it's him applying himself to a cause where he can have the most impact.

Because he wants them to have a shot at college. There's nothing wrong with skill trade, I went to a school like that for a year, learned Computer Data Processing way back then. Looking back, I wish I would have gone to college and gotten a degree.

But don't you think it's a tad racist to limit it to black men only then scream discrimination at the hint of a program benefiting a white more than a black

Can't have it both ways. As long as you demand special treatment, you will be treated differently.

What are you talking about? We're already treated differently. The system benefits white men and women more than black men and women. Don't you read those links where black men and women apply for jobs, and those with "white" sounding names get more hits than Jamal and Tanisha? Hell, a white criminal has a better chance of getting hired than a black man without a criminal record. How is that equal?

Yes i read those links and we quite eloquently disproved them

Why do we keep having to do that over and over

OK let me get this straight.

You want a society that does not look at a black man in any regard, shape form or function, any different than they do a white man?

However you still want preferential treatment, special govt programs, quota's, set asides, hate crime laws, black only organizations that exclude whites, etc.

I don't believe in the self fulfilling prophecy of the hobbled black. It appears you do.

Let me break it down for you:

I want a society that doesn't need NAACP, BET or the CBC to represent us. I want the law to punish the folks that kill unarmed black teens the same way it would a unarmed white teen. I want a society where a black kid can wear a hoodie and not get shot, or assumed he's a threat. I want black men and women to have the same opportunities as anyone else. I want Al, Jesse, and any other activist to get another day job. I want hate crime laws to go away, meaning the law treats EVERYONE EQUAL.

How do you disprove what folks have actually researched? CNN did the study, so did many other folks. It's been proven time and time again. You have folks here who have confirmed exactly just that. One person said it, word for word, he wouldn't hire a black person unless their references are exemplary. Meaning that person has to be better than the average white person. How is that fair?

Would he hire an Asian or a Hispanic?

I'd wager he would an Asian but not a Hispanic. It's funny, he said he'd deport anyone in this country who wasn't white, yet he's marrying a girl from the PI. He also said he wanted to join the KKK. I pointed out his wife might have issues with that. Haven't seen him since.

You scared him Marv.

Just trying to educate him. The KKK has made it clear it's only for white people. Wouldn't want him going to the company picnic and being chased out cause his wife looks mighty brown in her picture.

Computer Data Processing is not what I'd class as a skilled trade. :non:

Carpenter, pipefitter, ironworker, plumber, tiler, stonemason, etc. are skilled trades. A lot of those types of skills are learned on the job, out in the field. The work can be physically demanding, but the skills learned will last a lifetime, and the tradesman will be using those skills, refining them, for as long as he's working. And the money, for a skilled tradesman good at their job, prepared to put in the hours, can be pretty good.

I work in construction, but not out in the field. I took 11 years to attain my professional qualification, attending college part time. I reckon I use maybe 10% of what I learned in college in actual day to day working life. The other 90%, I picked up on the job learning what it required from the people around me. The only thing I missed out on by not going the full-time university route was the social life. BFHD. ;)

It's nice to aim for a college degree, but life after college may render that an expensive waste of effort and opportunity. Ignoring training young people, of all backgrounds, in the skilled trades is selling them, and this country, short. :(

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

I agree with most of what you said, especially the part about Jesse getting a real job, hate crime laws going away,

Did I hear you say you are going to retire?

I disagree with focusing on trade skills. While there will always be a demand for those types of jobs I believe the best route for young people in general is science, engineering, math, computer sciences, bio tech....really anything that involves technology. We have been losing ground to other nations in these areas. Right now in IT I see nothing but foreigners coming here and taking these jobs. They aren't even highly skilled jobs, mostly programming and development. Skills which frankly can be taught at the high school level. A lot of these folks I have interviewed before for jobs come from "suspect" universities in India for example that you can't find on a map. They are brought here by companies to take good paying jobs partly because we don't have the tech workforce here in the States.

We need more youth that can compete with China, S. Korea, India, Europe, and Japan to remain a competitive player when it comes to breakthroughs in medicine, science, and engineering.

I'll say it's not for everyone, but my computer based knowledge has been nothing but a blessing for me. If I'd applied myself more, I'd be further in my career. Once I'm done here and hit the civilian world, it's full speed ahead. It's good to have any trade, rather it be carpenter or IT based. And it's better to be able to CHOOSE which option suits you best, college or conventional work.

Yep February 2015. Twenty years of honorable service(unless you count that port visit to Thailand).
