  1. 1. Obama is "plotting a return to the issues that have been central to his own life and will continue to shape generations of young black men after he leaves the White House".

    • His focus on "young black men" proves that he is a racist who hates white people. He is a divider, not a uniter.
    • His focus on "young black men" is just him doing what he knows best. It's not racist, it's him applying himself to a cause where he can have the most impact.

“Amid continued pessimism about the economy and direction of the country, 59 percent of Americans say they are disappointed in Mr. Obama’s presidency (including 37 percent who are very disappointed),” CBS News reported on Wednesday. The latest CBS News/New York Times poll found that only 41 percent of American adults approve of the job the president is doing in office, down from the 46 percent approval CBS registered in mid-January.

The Republicans are set to maintain control the House and make big gains in the Senate in November. How big? While the Senate is in play in the coming election cycle, some analysts are beginning to entertain the prospect that Republicans may make gains large enough to allow them to keep control through the 2016 cycle.

...

RealClearPolitics analyst Sean Trende took a less conventional approach to estimating potential GOP Senate gains. Last Thursday, Trende published a post in which he said that Republican gains in the Senate will track closely with President Obama’s job disapproval rating. He wrote that, at Obama’s present 41 percent rating, gains of between 10 and 11 seats in the upper chamber of Congress are not out of the question.

An 11 seat gain would mean the GOP would hold 56 seats in that chamber of Congress – a feat the party has not duplicated since the election of Herbert Hoover in 1928.

It’s that bad, and Obama apparently knows it. This week, the President of the United States began to tout his plans for the post-presidency. Amid a contentious election year in which the fate of his signature policy achievement, the Affordable Care Act, hangs in the balance, Obama has set his sights on the impact he can make once he vacates the Oval Office.

On Thursday, White House advisors mounted a press blitz in which they said that Obama will expand his “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative, a program which will bring together non-profit foundations and private enterprises to test programs designed to help young minority men to graduate from high school, train for a good job, and avoid juvenile detention centers or prison.

“Senior White House aides confirm to Yahoo News that a major focus of Obama’s post-presidency will be a broad-based, lifelong effort to lift up a demographic that feels perennially written off and left behind,” Yahoo! News’ Liz Goodwin and Garance Franke-Ruta reported on Wednesday. “Obama, who wrote a best-selling memoir probing questions of race, identity and his own fatherlessness, is plotting a return to the issues that have been central to his own life and will continue to shape generations of young black men after he leaves the White House.”

This is a critical cause, and the president’s influence will be valuable to helping minority youth to navigate the challenges posed by growing up in troubled neighborhoods. Obama’s post-presidency already seems bright. So bright, in fact, that the president apparently cannot wait to get started.

Given the dip in his approval rating and the increasing likelihood that the final two years of the Obama administration will be unproductive due to the potential for a Republican dominated Congress, Obama is already embracing his lame duck status.

I find it so ironic that you quote a Socialist sympathizer as in Tavis Smiley. His best friend and colleague is Dr. Cornel West who is a socialist. They both are huge advocates of big government and anti poverty.

I only say that bc it's you posting it. I like Dr. West and have read several of his books, saw him speak at my college. I don't agree with him on every issue and he has completely pissed me off with his criticisms of Obama but I respect his opinion - how can I not, he is one of the leading intellects of our time.

Smiley and West main agenda is the poor. A constituency that has no allies with either party and no voice in DC. Just find it funny you use his quote, why not Allen West or Clarence Thomas?

Because the quote in question has two of Lost's favorite things to talk about, black people and Obama.

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” – Coretta Scott King

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

If I posted a quote from Clarence You would call him an uncle tom. The kenyan has been fundamentally useless as a president: when you look at the black folks ....on ...main street. Travis is correct and you are p**** that you cannot call him an uncle tom also. Fundamentally change America.....He left the black folk out .. I guess he did let a few out of jail. Everyone s anti-poverty maybe a few less vacations or rounds of golf and your main man in Washington could attend to this problem. At least he could take a few kids from the inner city and let them caddy for him.

Yet the conservative mindset is to not help anyone so they'll learn to help themselves. Obama is the conservative role model of our time when it comes to inner city blacks.

This is presumably an untried and untested way to estimate the swing to the right that will result in GOP senate gains?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

"main man", the dog whistles are strong in this one.

Nope, the point of the dog whistle is you're not supposed to hear it. Meaning the racism is "hidden". It's not in this case. I've met bigots that hate less.

Obama is everyones President. How can you criticize him for not pushing a "Black" agenda when it's his job to represent an entire country. Can you imagine if he came out with a jobs plan that focused solely on urban areas, he'd be labeled a reverse bigot or something equally ridiculous.

Obama is the President not a King. We have a broken Congress that for 6 years has done everything in its power to impede our Presidents progress. The majority of the criticisms against him are completely unfair and most Americans have no clue how our government and laws work.

People think the President can just wave a magic wand and fix everything. As far as your other comments go I don't really care who you quote I was just curious why you were quoting Tavis whom ideologically, I am guessing, you have nothing in common with. If you want to pit Black vs Black I am only suggesting you use someone who you have more in common with like Allen West or Clarence Thomas or whatever token Black person they put on Fox news.

Hey Teddy, find a link saying Obama is going for a third term. I want to see a meltdown here on VJ.
