Hello there!

You may have missed the life changing event deadline to add her; it all depends on your company and the insurace company. However you will be able to add her during your open enrollment period. Just check with your HR department to see when that is. They should be a little more helpful than just telling you that you simply cannot add her. I hope this helps.

Best of luck!

I also spoke to my company and they said that when my hubby comes with his Cr1 its a life changing event due to the fact that he has "lost" his insurance in India and can be added to mine immediately but no later than 30 days from his arrival

I couldn't add my husband to my insurance without a SSN. Once he arrived and received his SSN we just needed to provide proof that he had insurance through his previous employer but lost it due to immigration. They added him immediately and made it effective they day he entered the US.

Immigration should usually be a qualifying event due to change in residency of your spouse and I assume the loss of their insurance (since many countries people will be coming from have national health insurance plans).

I don't know why you wouldn't be able to unless you don't have a family plan. My fiance is coming up to visit for 6 months on a tourist visa while my 129F processes and in the interrim i'll be adding her in my plan as a domestic partner (must register) until we return to her country for the fiance interview so we're not in violation and then return stateside and get married.

Yesterday I filled out all papers and today my wife is already enrolled in my health and dental insurance.

FYI: It's not necessary to buy an insurance before came in USA

I can't add my wife when we got married, we did that a year ago oversees.

Even didn't have SSN.

You can't add somebody without SSN.

I work for the City of Los Angeles and was in the same boat. I didn't file within the 30 days and didn't know I only had 30 days, so I had to wait for open enrollment. If you're HR dept is telling you that you can't add your wife without a social security number, you're dealing with an idiot. You most certainly can add your wife without a Social Security number. I added both my wife and adopted daughter. If you don't get anywhere with the person you're dealing with at your work....call the health insurance company directly. They will tell you yes or no. And if they say yes, call your work's HR dept back and tell them you've already spoken to your insurance company and they said yes.
