Should I sent a xerox'd copy of my certified divorce decree (48 pages).. or should I sent the actually divorce decree that shows the certified stamp on each page.

id rather send the xerox than send off my 50$ copy of my divorce decree.

it says just send a copy, but i want to be sure.

Hi,

If this is for the I-130 then a copy is fine...later on if you file the ds-230 you will need a certified copy.

I sent them just the top page, with the actual decree on it. They wrote me back adn wanted to see the real papers- they wanted to see the actual judges signature.

For me, I sent only xeroxed copies of the entire divorce packet .

No RFE was ever received, so maybe like everything else it is one of those "on an individual basis" kind of things. Imagine that with the Gov't. Hope that helps. Hopefully others will reply as well with their experience on this...Good Luck.

Just remember,...before you send it so that they cannot nail you with an RFE for it.

Write your name and Birthdate, and I think SS# on the top right hand corner of the entire packet. I cant remember if the SS# is needed, but it will simplify the process for them, and guarantee you wont get an RFE for it.

This is how they rejoin the papers if they are separated, and it has happened.

Every step from here onward will require that you place your name,and case number on every piece of paper submitted. At the point you are at, I made sure I put my name and SS# and DOB. on the top right hand corner of every sheet.This is not required, but in many cases where people say they sent sheets, and the Govt claims they did not get them all, this is usually the reason they get a request for further evidence. Their way of saying we lost your paper ,or it was separated from your other papers and now we cant locate it or dont know cause there was no name or such on the top right hand corner of the sheets we found. I went thru this once before, and that happened, so i made sure this time. Just a bit of advice. Dont want to mislead you, but if you are submitting that many papers, I would !

Yes...you must send the entire 42 page decree with jugdes sig and all...but a copy is fine. Put your case number in the upper right corner of every page you send....name,dob and ss# are totally not necessary, just a waste of time. If papers get separated they use the case number.

For Claudeth's interview I gave her the certified copy of the divorce final. That was only a couple of pages as opposed to the whole document with all the property agreements, etc. Make sure it is a certified copy from the court! Good luck

Actually what you can do as well is goto the court house that you filed your divorce in and get a record of the divorce. Its a one page document. Get it notorized. During your I-130 petition, only give them a photo copy, never give originals, originals are yours, but she must show at time of interview. The only originals they are required to have for their records are her police records, medical exams, I-130, I-864, and the DS-230. I believe I got them all If you cannot goto your court house where you were divorced, I would assume the worst, get a certified copy of all pages, why take the chance and spend the few dollars to get it done. Donot want to delay the process based on the interviewers preference. Good luck.
