Man-made famines were a common tool employed by imperialist powers over the last few centuries. Not just in the Ukraine but elsewhere as well. No one seems to remember that anymore.

I don't think people who lived through that have forgot. China is another example. Not talked about but ..... A grand father died or an aunt. Sometimes mentioned in passing....... By the younger folks.

This is true, I have heard many mentions of the Bengal famine (engineered by Winston Churchill) which killed many. But no one from other regions of India know about it or care.

Actually, just a few months ago - India cut off heating oil supplies to Bhutan in the middle of winter in order to influence an election. When the Bhutanese voted the way India wanted them to, they got their heating oil back. Not exactly a famine, but damn.

So it appears the fuel was actually cut off in the summer, not the winter.

Seems a lot less sinister now. I should google the things I hear more often.

An activist type told me this at a party a few weeks ago. Also told me a bunch of stuff about evil chit India's doing in Arunachal/South Tibet. That stuff appeals to me since I grew up listening to how evil the people who run New Delhi are. I tend to not question it when it sounds appropriately evil. My bad.
