I finally called USCIS today and got a hold of a Tier 2 officer. She told me that an RFE was made and mailed out on August 25. I told her that I have not received it. She reviewed my mailing address, and then said, "Your mailing address is in Egypt?" I told her, 'yes'. She said that they don't mail anything abroad not even to Mexico or Canada. I then explained to her that I received my hard copy I-797 NOA1 in the mail here in Egypt. She told me they are not supposed to do that, and that she was going to speak to her supervisor on whether I should change my address to my US address (which I am not currently living at right now.), or if I would actually have been mailed this RFE to my current mailing address in Egypt. She told me she would place me on hold, I was on hold for about 5 minuets and then the call just ended. I don't know if the call dropped through Skype as that's what I was receiving calls on or if it came from the USCIS side. She didn't call me back again of course..

So I called back and requested to be transferred... well unlucky me they were not accepting any more transfers for tier 2.

Has anyone living abroad currently have any problem receiving mail?

And not to change the subject, but I was honestly shocked that an RFE was made... I have no idea what it is in reference to, but I've been married living with my husband for 7 years. I have not left his side since we've been married except for the 3 weeks I returned back to the US to re-establish my domicile this past April.. This just makes me so sad.

I, and several others I've spoken to, have received mail abroad. I was in Australia when I filed and received my NOA1 by mail.

However I didn't receive my NOA2 by mail yet and it's been 6 weeks... My address change to NZ was definitely processed in time. But it doesn't bother me because I also got email notifications. I've never heard anything about not sending mail overseas, that makes no sense at all seeing as many of us can't be living in the USA until our free cards come through. My husband is with me in New Zealand so both our mailing addresses are here.

Got married: 26th Sep 2013

I too received my NOA1 in the mail and received the email notification too. However, I never did received an email notification stating I had an RFE nor did it appear in 'My Case Status'. My husband and I mailing address is the same as well.

I wouldn't worry about the reason for the RFE. They are sent for all manner of things, not just insufficient relationship evidence. It could be you missed out a document or skipped a question on the form in error or didn't sign something. It could be that something isn't clear or legible.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Well... we will see soon what is the reason for RFE. I am hoping to receive it within this week or the next. I reviewed what I sent them and to be honest it does not appear that I left out anything; it's signed and dated, I filled out everything they asked for and anything that wasn't related, I either wrote N/A or NONE. But we'll see. Just trying to stay positive that once we receive it and provide or prove what they've asked for, that hopefully soon afterwards we will be approved.

Well my case was touched yesterday I guess because I just got a text we got RFE!! Not too good news after 4.5 month, but any way.

At least you received a notification. I did not receive any notification and only found out 3 days ago of my RFE that was made on Aug. 25th. But hopefully soon afterwards you will be approved and so will I. Still optimistic. Good Luck to you.

hi all,

just wondering a couple things after reading through the last 10 pages (gotta catch up!)...

1) we received the NOA2 on august 14th, but the case was only sent to dept of state on sept 6th (notified through the app). until now, we haven't received an email or letter in the mail. i cannot move onto the next step until i get an actual letter which has the invoice number and case number, is that right? or will we also receive an email, too?

2) i was seeing that people had kindly given a list of things to start preparing, which we have done already. is it basically all the same paperwork as the i-130 packet that we sent in? plus the tax papers and joint sponsor (if needed)? will copies of birth cert be okay (as it was for i-130)? i was also a bit confused when some people said that all documents needed to be translated, but others said that since the interview would take place in the country we live in (taiwan), that it's okay if it's not. can someone clarify which one is correct?

would appreciate the help! thank you!

1.) No you have moved to the next stage already. You don't need an actual letter for you to move on. Just keep calling NVC until they tell you what your Case number and invoice number is for your case.

2.) Yes, the info you're sending in is the same thing you send USCIS. But you're only sending in the documents that you send in for the I-864. Also, a copy of the birth certificate is fine. But just make sure it is one with the seal on it. They pretty much do want it in English because the people at NVC needs to able to read it. So to be safe just have the documents translated in advance.

I hope this helps you out a lil and Gud Luck

Also just to let you know, I got an email rather than a hard copy letter from NVC. (Did you fill out the email notification form with your original request) I was approved at USCIS 3rd aug, sent to NVC 18th aug, and received the email with case number, barcoded cover sheet, and my first invoice (AOS) on the 8th September.

Hard copy might still come but just thought you'd like to know email is more likely to arrive first. They emailed me THE day the case number was assigned. I filed from abroad so I don't put much hope in the mail :-) and NVC confirmed I don't need it anyway as I print the cover sheets from the email.

Based on my timing i would think you'll hear from them in the next 2 weeks.

Congratulations on reaching the next stage.

Regarding translations. Here is an example where a translation is needed. I live in the UK and obviously the official language here is English. However, I hold dual citizenship and lived in Germany until I was 25 so I need a police certificate from Germany (which I have) and it's in German. Because German is not the official language of the USA or the country where I will be interviewing (the UK), it must be translated. If I were still living in Germany, a German police cerificate would not need to be translated as German is the official language of the country where I would be interviewing.

Here's the NVC policy on it

https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/Supporting_documents.html

All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa, must be accompanied by certified translations.

Hello Everyone,

My case# ends with *******22. PD is July 25th. I've seen on USCIS app and their website that the case# ends with *********29 is being approved on Sept. 16, 2016 while having the same PD (July 25th)

This makes me curios that how does any service center decide which case they should work on? I thought the process is FIFO (First In First Out) instead of randomly selecting case. The reason I said it is because there are many people ahead of me whose PD is in May and still waiting for more than 4-5 months.

Any idea?

so i'm clear...since we're applying from taiwan (where our interview will be), my husband's birth cert/police cert/other documents will NOT need to be translated from chinese to english, even though we send our documents to the states. is that right?
