The representatives of that species here on VJ make abundantly clear that they indeed believe that. Being that paranoid, they should not be allowed to own - let alone carry - firearms.

BTW: I have seen the plan for when an 8.0 earthquake or similar disaster hits a major metropolitan area like Los Angeles. If you think Katrina was bad....help is not coming and nobody is leaving until the shooting stops.

Normally law abiding citizens are not the enemy, unless of course, society collapses. Those will be your friends and neighbors out there running rampant and doing all the looting. However, the amount of food and water available once the infrastructure is destroyed will be measured in hours, not days. Until the survivors become docile, there will be no help coming. Not everybody will have the 14 day supply of survival needs recommended, and it will not be the government you have to fear, but each other.

I think knowing how to survive will be based on the most basic survival techniques of obtaining water, food, shelter. If you can acquire those things on your own with limited resources then your chances of survival is greater than just having guns alone.

One needs to prepare for something like this long before it happens. A story I read about New Orleans a man paid attention to elevation when purchasing a home. He had something to go back to.after the storm. I know people who bought swamp land because they saved a few thousand on the lot. Electric does not work ... sump pumps don't work then major flood in the house, Will society collapse .. Who knows... I do know few people are in shape to survive an event, At least in this country, Many people survive in rural China in conditions that would kill us Americans. We have lost basic skill sets. To them it is everyday life that people endured for generations. Something as simple as a bicycle to get around with. What food to preserve. ect,

That may take up to two weeks, plenty of time for attrition to wean the population down to all but the hardiest of survivors.The only things that will thrive in that environment will be the carrion eaters.
