C.'s probably put on five or ten pounds, but that's less due to stress than the fact that his job keeps him out of town and eating out too much.

"Babe, you need to eat more salads."

"I do! I just had a salad."

"What kind?"

"Pasta salad."

"[laughter.]"

"[sheepish silence.] Oh."

I haven't gained or lost any weight through most of this process. But I don't show stress in weight gain. In my case, it manifests as tightness in the chest and a racing heart, and the visa process has just made me look old. If it makes sense, my skin's just lost its lustre. Also, it's killed my ability to focus and concentrate. I have to go to the gym just to be able to relax enough to sleep.

I wish I were one of those people who got so stressed I lost a million pounds. But when I get stressed I go up and down and up and down. On a nice little "up" right now. I will not be going to my friend's wedding in July if I don't take care of this soon.... (oh the shame)

I've gained weight, but I've recently found out it's mostly due to a medical problem that appeared (or, rather, re-appeared) about the time Gareth moved to the US.

I'm supposed to finally start treatment in the next couple weeks, so here's hoping I'll drop the weight I've put on.

It is G's fault in a way: I have apnea, and I had spontaneously changed sleeping positions which eliminated the apnea but caused other problems, and since we didn't know about the apnea, he pushed me to change my sleeping position back to what it had been. If he'd stayed in Scotland, I'd have kept on sleeping on my stomach and getting decent rest but damaging the nerves in my arms/hands. This way I have healthy arms/hands but haven't gotten a good night's sleep since he came here.
