WOW!! Congratulations Bro.

Wishing you a great life ahead, thanks for sharing ur experience with us. Its really helpful for us who are waiting for years.

have fun and enjoy ur life bro.

"Aakhirkaar tumhe is bojh se mukti mili" Really feeling glad for you!! :):)

Thanks Puru44... with all the info from VJ members things went smooth... yes finally a big relief... :D .

Now I have got a new delimma  , guys who are aware of it please respond.

My father (the petitioner) is in home country India and planning to come after few months, and I am planning to leave for US next week for only 10-12 days. Can I do Port of Entry alone when petitioner is in India ?

And I have written that my US address would be Jersey City where my brother lives, in DS-260, but can I do Port of Entry in California (At my friends place in California) on temporary basis for this visit of 10 days ?

And what are the next important steps to do in the US immediately, once I reach there as I am there for only 10 days only ?

Can I do port of entry and return back after a week and then get married in Home country ?

Please advice.

It doesn't matter where the petitioner is during the POE. Yes, you can go there anytime but before visa expiration date i.e. 6 months.

And I have written that my US address would be Jersey City where my brother lives, in DS-260, but can I do Port of Entry in California (At my friends place in California) on temporary basis for this visit of 10 days ?

Although, the sealed package will be handed to the concerned authority while entering the USA at the airport and later transferred to the USCIS by airport officials to issue the greencard and SSN to the new immigrant. You have given the details of Jersey City in DS-260, therefore they will send your SSN and Greencard to that address only because in DS-260 they have asked this particular question separately. Moreover, it generally takes a month getting these documents therefore it hardly matters whether you stay in LA or Jersey City for first 10-15 days, you will be treated just like a visitor. You can't drive, study and work until you get your SSN and Card, and I dnt think that you gonna start right away, I believe u must aware with all these facts. So, there won't be any problem and you may go to California and visit ur frnd for a while.

And what are the next important steps to do in the US immediately, once I reach there as I am there for only 10 days only ?

Usually, people stay at their known residence place until they gt their SSN and card. As i said above, these 2 are the major documents you needed all the time with your Indian Passport. Generally, people visit the local area and gather some important info to proceed ahead. You may find some useful links and info regarding driving licence authority, you may search for some companies for a job, you may attend interviews and tell them you will join once you receive ur card. Bottom line is: you can't do anything practically until you gt ur SSN and card but meanwhile you can do the homework for next task and make arrangements for future events like to open bank account, job interviews, driving tests etc. as these three tasks are most important and you cant avoid them.

Can I do port of entry and return back after a week and then get married in Home country ?

No, dont marry until you get ur GREENCARD in your HANDS. I advice you to be there until you receive the card, and you may return back right after you receive the card to get married in India. You are asking for a week in your question but it wont harm if u stay 3 more weeks to do all this safely to avoid any problem, after all you have waited for centuries for this piece of plastic, so be lil bit more patient my frnd.

Just outta curiosity, it comes through my mind.

Have you done your education degrees/certificates evaluation with any certified Credential Evaluation Authority in US??

If not, then do it immediately bcoz u need to obtain one to prove ur education equivalency to the US education system to get any job or admission in university.

when you crossing the US border your immigration visa becomes a substitution of green card for a first year. You can travel with it abroad of USA.
BUT better to receive a green card at first...

First of all, the immigrant visa cant become a substitution for 1 year bcoz it has a validity for 6 months. Secondly, he asked that he wanna gt married abroad right after POE. In that case, his marriage date will be early before the date when he received the card and he will receive the card later on after arriving in US back from India. Then, he will file a petition for his wife under F2A and has to attach a Marriage Certificate to prove the relationship which clearly states the date of marriage held before he received the card.

I am not saying that he cant do that, but all this will come in front of USCIS later on. They might have asked him why didnt he wait to receive his SSN and Card first or you never know when you deal with the system like American Immigration which is so rigid to follow its rules and regulation, religiously. If it was a question to travel to India back right after made a POE then there won't be much problem until the visa is valid. But, to get married abroad is kinda doubtful seem to me before receiving SSN and Card, if I was in his shoes then I wont take any chance which led to raise a finger of doubt by USCIS. So its better to take precautions rather than taking a risk with uncertainty.

right, visa as a permit to cross a border good only half year after date of getting results of medical examination. but after you cross the US border you visa becomes a different type a document, from this moment it have same permission as a green card for 1 year from a date of first crossing US border in a immigrant status

see the text on a immigrant visa (picture taken from google search):

second:

tha date on a plastic(i mean GC) will be not more of 2-3 weeks after you cross the border and request it...
