Yes I am from Gujarat so Mumbai embassy would be the applicable one...

This is grt info..I can come before 1 week & get PCC, Biometric and medical and go for Interview..

Thanx VisaGrant... Appreciate your help....

ram245 getting pcc will be a bit headache because when you apply for the appointment average waiting time for any passport seva kendra is about 10-15 days... this includes surat and other PSKs of gujarat.. so you better have some spare time with you and also medical thing takes about 2-4 days to complete and a week waiting for the report so you want to have at least a month at your hand... i'm saying this because of many relatives and friends of mine have finished the process and already in the US... so if you want to consider this you can

I will be doing change of status not consular processing.

Anyone knows about the process ?

It will be of a great help.

thank you.

Eventhough there were some members in the past who have gone through Adjustment Of Status....Here is an outline....

To adjust status in the United States or to get U.S. Green Card, an immigrant visa number must be readily available to the alien immigrant. Each year, a certain number of immigrant visas are available for alien immigrants. The available immigrant visa numbers and their current "priority dates" can be checked at the monthly Visa Bulletin issued by the U.S. Department of State.

The Priority Date is the date on which an immigrant visa petition is filed with the USCIS. Therefore, an alien immigrant can apply to adjust status only when his or her priority date is "Current". The immediate relatives of U.S. Citizens are exempted from this requirement as they are not subject to the immigrant visa quota system. But other relatives of U.S. Citizens, such as U.S. citizen's married child or U.S. citizen's brother or sister, are subject to the Immigrant Visa Quota System.

By filing USCIS form I-485 - Application to Register Permanent Residence of Adjust Status, an alien immigrant can adjust his or her status to a lawful permanent resident within the United States, if the alien immigrant can meets the requirements and is not subject to any ground of inadmissibility. Also, the alien immigrant needs to submit other mandatory governmental forms, relevant documents, and application fees to USCIS.

All noncitizens seeking to adjust their status should carefully read the instructions to Form I-485. In general, in addition to an approved petition, an applicant will need:

(1) Two color photos;

(2) G-325A Biographic Data Form;

(3) A medical exam with form I-693 and its supplement;

(4) An Affidavit of Support;

(5) Proof of Inspection and proof of lawful current status;

(6) Photos and the appropriate filing fee.

(7) Form I-765 - Application for Employment Authorization

(8) Form I-131 - Application for Travel Document (Advance Parole)

Even if an individual intends on handling the process by him or herself, it would nevertheless be wise to consult with a qualified immigration Attorney to evaluate the case in order to identify any potential issues or complications. The consequences of a denied application can be severe-in some cases, leading to the start of immigration court proceedings to remove the individual.

Good Luck

It will also help in your planning if you also consider the member "darkknight13" views too...Eventhough most of the process can be initiated online...the outcomes is based on the ground reality...

Immigrant Visas in general:

In general the Immigrant Visa is valid for 180 days. Only in exceptional cases we will be able to issue another visa if you do not enter the United States before the expiration date. Please contact us thru e-mail immigrationrio@state.gov to know how to proceed. This does not apply to Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery Winners. DV winners must enter the U.S. before the expiration date. Failure to do so will result in the Visa being forfeited and there will be no possibility of having another DV Visa.

At your first Port-of-Entry in the U.S., the USCIS Officer will retain your visa package and will place an ADIT (admission) stamp into your passport. The USCIS officer can answer questions about when and how you will receive your green card. Until you receive your green card your ADIT stamp is your proof of legal residency in the United States and you can immediately live, work and study in the USCIS office will mail your physical green card to the address that you provided in the Sworn Statement (form DS 230-I).

Note that this "stamp" is valid for one year. It is very important that you remember this expiration date. If you travel outside the U.S. before receiving your physical green card, make sure that you return before the expiration date of the stamp. If you must leave the U.S. and know that you will not be able to return before that date - and you have not yet received your green card - you must request an extension from USCIS before leaving the U.S. You must request this in person from USCIS in the United States. You must not leave the U.S. until you have received it. If, for some reason, the stamp does expire while you are abroad you will have to arrange for someone in the United States to mail you your green card so that you can reenter the U.S.

Refer to the last line. Does this mean that if one member of a family stays back he can receive plastic Green cards for all the other members of his family, as and when they arrive by post?
