YES...it will create a big problem for you...immediately cancel all of your return tickets and buy new one-way tickets only...buddy, u r going to get GREEN-CARD, and US assumes that u r going to stay in their country forever...... if they come to know at the point of entry that u r entering US with return tickets and also intend to get a greencard, then they might ask you to leave from the point of entry.......this is not to scare u, but this is a fact........many have faced this kind of situation....US is not going to write this kind of point in their "points to be taken care of" or "laws" but each and every lawyer would advise u to enter US with one-way ticket if u r entering with an immigrant visa......

Hi

Could you please reconfirm me . I have already purchased the two way air ticket for my family which is non refundable . If I have to cancel then I have to face huge financial loss. Please help me .

Hi sachin

For visa thing no one can confirm most stuff.

But think logically you have GC stamp on your passport and why Immigration agent at airport bother you having return ticket.

go on google and search " return ticket for immigrant visa"

Many people goes back to their country within a month or two to finish some stuff.

Plus return ticket is cheaper then one way.

Wait for some other people to answer but I am pretty sure it should not be a problem. IF they ask you can say you found round trip ticket cheaper then one way and you bought it.

No you have to pay the GC fee before leaving the country. After entering into US, GC is sent to your mailing address. Generally it takes 2 months after your arrival. It may also vary. If your luck is good then you may get the GC within 10 day. But max is 2 months.

Good Luck.

I would be more than happy if i am wrong in this issue.. :) .People at Port Of Entry are not bothered or concerned whether you have a Business class ticket or Cheap ticket..all they are doing is their job...when it comes to the visa process. What worked for someone else might not work for you at times..But, generally, there are things that are known to have helped many people, and things that are known to have resulted in problems for many people. When people here in this forum give advice they are basing that advice on those general trends. All including me are not promising any particular outcome. We're just giving you a heads up....For example...There are random checks done in airport...what triggers that nobody know....As you are going for the first time as an immigrant....It is better to be safe than sorry.

Good Luck

As both of you are "New Immigrants"...Your Visa Stamp in your passport(I-551)" is valid for a year and it is a temporary Green Card and it's expiration date is 1 year from the date of stamping. That doesn't imply you're allowed to stay outside the country for a year. The general accepted rule for a Green Card is no more than 180 days outside the country. Till you get the "Plastic Green Card" in mail after reaching US, Don't make any travel plans...otherwise your "Plastic Green Card" will be delayed and you may have to pay again for that Card...You have put in more effort and time (more than 10yrs..) when compared to other Visa Categories for getting this card.. :clock:

Good Luck

Thanks Visa Grant!

I have a question, I will be travelling next week with the main applicant, but she has to get back after few days, and then come back to the US in 2 months, there will be a problem here? Can she still use the I-551 Stamp to join the US and pickup the GC when she gets back?

So far what I have been reading this is possible.

Thanks for your replies!

Does she buy a 2 way ticket !!

I don't think this is correct.

My friend's sister and family came from India two month ago. Her daughter stayed here for a week and went back because she wanted to finish her last year collage there.

They had a return ticket for her.

Does your friends sister buy 2way ticket ?
