Hellos~

so i have an appointment this friday in Korea, and the the question of what must be notarized or not came to mind.

can someone please clarify:

1. what documents absolutely MUST be translated and notarized by an official office (in Korea's case, a lawyer)?

Certificate of Marriage, Certificate of Kinship and Family Register, Standard Certificate (Birth Certificate)

i read online that someone not related to the case who is a fluent translator can translate this. but do the seals and etc all need to be on the translated copy?? can't an official notary notarize this instead of force me to pay for his "official" translation/ which is the same?

2. What translated support (of marriage) documents must be translated officially and notarized?

(1. affidavits of support of marriage, 2. lease agreements, 3. health insurance, 4. phone/chat records, 5. emails, 6. utility bills, 7. proof of military service, 8. costco membership, 9. receipts for wedding rings, 10. pet registration, 11. bank/credit card statements, 12. wedding vows, 13. wedding invitations, 14. Statement/story of our relationship, etc.)

~could someone make a list of the ones that must be translated and notarized?

3. Which documents require a certified/notarized copy instead of just a copy?

i assume that passports yes, but what else? do scrapbooks and photos require this?what else?

I've found incomplete information online and also am basically being told by the lawyers who certify (in Korea) that even our sticker photos need certified copies. i'm pretty sure they're just trying to make money off of me.

Also~ when we file the DCF, do we send in originals or a copy of everything? If a copy, then do the copies all need certified notaries?

Hi, I filed mine a month ago, got my packet 3 last week, and I'm preparing for my interview now.

I didn't get anything notarized and I was fine. They didn't wanna see any supporting documents, just the certificates and copies of the documents. I translated my own, and signed my name under systems saying that it is true.

If anything is not in English it should be translated. Spend more time on the actual forms, I-130 and biographic form. It's way more important than any supporting documents. Just make sure you have enough cash. They say they accept credit card ok website.. But they don't.
