Basically, I feel stranded...

My divorce should be finalized next month and I am temporarily living on a friend's couch. I was thinking to head back to Canada after I send out the I-751 with waiver.

Is it a bad idea to go back to Canada for a few months during 1-751 with waiver? I know I will be called for biometrics after about a month.

Also, are all correspondence from USCIS done via email? Biometrics app? RFE? Interview? SInce I am not living at a firm address I have a P.O box and if I am in Canada I would need to be notified...

Does anyone know if filing with a waiver takes longer than without. The current processing time is 4.5 months for I-751.

Any thoughts would help.

You are free to go to Canada for a while. From what I have seen, a waiver case does take longer. Most correspondence is done through mail, but you can check the website for updates. Those updates are prone to error, though. Best of luck.

You will need a permanent address to file from, and need to update that address with USCIS. Everything is done via a letter, not email. If you give up residence, which moving to Canada will mean you've done, and have no physical address in the USA (a po box is not a physical address) you'll be considered as having abandoned your US residency. Find a friend or family member, your friend who's couch your staying at currently maybe, and set that as you new residence. At least until you get through ROC and establish a more permanent residence.
