any sweds here? me and my fiance are thinking about getting married in sweden. Any sweds here that have done it? also does he has to be with me for the hindersprövning or can he file the paper work from the usa? due to work his unable to take more then 1 week vacation. i heard hinderspröving takes about 1 week. so that would mean no time to get married thats why i wonder does he have to be here for the hindersprövning huh2.gif . i know he needs peppers from the usa showing his not married there anything else?

and about the marriage certificate is it the vigelse bevis or personbevis they want ?

sorry for all the questions this is so stressfulmellow.png

I already replied to your private message... but maybe someone will also find this helpful:

My husband and I are not Swedish residents, and we were able to get our hindersprovning by submitting all required documents via email. Then, when we got to Sweden, 3 days before our wedding, we went to Skatteverket and to our officiant to sign some papers, and that was it! smile.png Oh, we also had to bring all originals with us as well.

BUT, the US does not issue "free to marry" certificates and it's absolutely needed for the hindersprovning. So, we got a marriage license in Washington, DC (DC issues marriage licenses by proxy so I didn't even have to physically be there, only my passport was needed). And this was enough for the Swedish Tax Agency [skatteverket]smile.png

The hindersprovning process took us about a month, but it would have been less than that if not this "free to marry" certificate we did not know how to get at first...

All the docs we submitted:

- our birth certificates

- my husband's divorce decree

- my husband's "marriage records search" document from The Commonwealth of Virginia (this didn't suffice)

- my, issued by Polish authorities, free to marry certificate

- scans of our passports' bio pages

- our DC marriage license

It was all super stressful but Skatteverket was also very, very helpful smile.png

ALSO, hindersprovning and vigsel intyg (both issued by Skatteverket) must be submitted to a registrar at least few days before the wedding; some kommunes require a week or two.

Hindersprovning is easy! Either call skatteverket and have them send the forms or print them yourself. Fill it out and send it back to them. It took about 10 days in all. My husband was in the US so I filled it out on my own.

I guess it's way easier if at least one person is a Swedish resident! It was a pain for us, especially this free to marry certificate!

So you guys didn't need one from the US?

Hi I'm a US citizen my fiancé is from Malmö Sweden I'm planning on going there to get married. What exactly do I need. And I also was told that hindersprövning takes a little while and I can only go for a week or two due to work. How can we make that process faster and is there any fees to all of this?? What does she need to fill the hindersprövning on her own if possible?

This thread is from 2014. I would recommend posting your question in the Scandinavian thread found here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/185-scandinavians/
