February 2012. Only two years ...and I am seriously giving it a chance.

Maybe it's just the state??? I don't know honestly!

Well... you are in Florida...

This is definitely the hardest thing for me right now in trying to figure out where to live in the future. On the one hand it's nice to have the options of traveling between the countries, but when picking the one to stay in, one person is always going to have to sacrifice home, family, and friends. That's really tough. It sounds good though that you both are going to move to Germany in the future because it gives you both a chance to have home for a few years at least.

Thank you so much for the nice messages smile.png . Yeah somebody will always have to make sacrifices you guys are absolutely right about that!

Yeah we are thankfully both looking forward on moving back to Germany yay and I really try to enjoy the time that we have left here.

Since it's easier to take vacation from your job in Germany, we will be able to at least travel back to the US to visit family for at least 4 weeks a year.

I think you are probably right with saying, that if I would be living in a state with cooler weather, that I would find something else that is bugging me or that I am missing hehe true true but I am not that bad of a complainer wink.png.

It really helped to write what was hanging in my heart tho.

Thank you so much for listening biggrin.png....

Ain't that a truth hahahahaha...I love that picture!!!!

I don't like living in the state I'm currently living in, but neither does my wife. Difficult being gay in the bible belt at times.

Before she came to visit me, however, she was content with where she lived. Then when she came up to Vancouver, she got away from that "small down southern vibe" and is now totally in love with Canada and the west coast, she just never had a reason to experience it until we started talking and she came to meet me.

We're moving to Portland soon to be closer to Canada and once we actually have careers we would like to move back there, some days it's my wife saying "ugh I miss Canada!" and not me :P

  • 4 weeks later...

I miss the Philippines every now and then. Loved Manila (not the traffic though). Life in the Philippines is more so much more social. I find that relationships in the US are somewhat compartmentalized. But then I enjoy life with my husband, I love my job, we have a community of good friends here, and we live in an area that we both like (a lot). So, can't complain.

Filed: Citizen (apr) Country: Australia
Timeline

I went through a major homesick phase at the two year and five year mark... It took a long time to really get used to how different Florida is from Australia physically (no seasons, no hills, no mountains, not as much weather variation, etc etc etc. and I really missed my family who have never come to visit and are never going to either... I was also very frustrated that I love to travel and I've never been further north than Tampa and Orlando so that all I ever get to see is the same south Florida tropical environment.) But now I've been here nine years I was literally just talking to my husband about it in the car yesterday and I can't imagine going 'home' again. I love Florida! We just moved within the state and I think I like our new town even more than our old one because it's more 'small towny'. Give it time and don't beat yourself up over feeling homesick occasionally... it strikes at the oddest moments.

When I do feel occasionally homesick I remind myself of the promises I made myself as written in the Book of Ruth and I grab my bible and reread it... I take my wedding vows very seriously, and I made my choice nine years ago... I wasn't coming for a vacation, I was coming for life. And I don't regret it.
