Yeah, I feel your pain. I'm sorry you are feeling this way, because I can't imagine what it's like holding on to those feelings for so long.

Any chance of moving? I'm just guessing no because you said you bought a house.

Is there anywhere close to you where you can get a taste of home?

Yeah, maybe a trip to snow country? Lots of snow in the northern US and Canada.

No, I don't advise coming to the midwest atm.

So much ice, so many shItty drivers.

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

I just assumed you meant states that border Canada when you said "northern states" goofy.gif

Maybe we will be moving back to Germany in three years. That's actually what is planned since we came here.

We need to wait until my step kids turn 18, since their mom ( also German), doesn't sign the papers for them to stay in Germany.

My step kids will then come with us, when they turn 18.

It's simple but not really lol!

I believe I sound crazy

Oh, but there are many states that border Canada that are not in the midwest, and much snow country that is not in a border state :)

Oooooh I see. I guess the best part about that is that there *is* an end date in sight....just a three year end date.

Do you take the weekends to travel? There are a load of fun places to visit close to Florida.

Sadly we really didn't travel much yet. I have been to Key West, Miami but not out of state!

Ouch, sorry. I could not stand living down south - too hot and too muggy!

Heck, my husband thinks CT is too hot in the summers!

Nope never had any!

Checked that out too already, since I am not sure what's going on!

I always get recommendations to try another state.

Yeah I guess that would maybe help too. I hate that it's warm all the time here. I can't stand the humidity.

I don't like that I have to drive everywhere....and can't just run to the next store like I am used to.

Things like that are bugging me a lot!

Ah, Florida. :(

I can see why you might not be a big fan of the climate there. Too hot and humid, with way too many bugs, hurricanes and retired English people.

I'd love to be back in Maine, but things don't look to hopeful on that front right now. :(

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

Hey guys...,

I hope everybody is doing fine!!!

Am I alone or is there anybody else, that would rather be back home?

Sometimes I feel just like #######???

I am very happy in my marriage, we bough a beautiful house and I have a great job but it's just not my thing here?!?!?

Yeah, I have friends, I go out etc but still, I feel not home! I am not bitching or anything like that at home but I am just thinking...ok another day today...let me go to work and back home and let me get over with it again!

Is anybody feeling the same way???

See y'all!

Yes, I am feeling the same. Not always but there are times - more frequently over the last couple of years - when I seriously think about heading back home. Maybe not forever but for some time. We talked about it and my wife and daughter are on board. They both love Germany. My wife would have to learn some German if we were to actually make the move but she can do that over there. I'm now actively looking into regaining my German citizenship which I unbeknownst to me lost when I became a US citizen. And I am looking for employment opportunities in Germany as well. Helps to work for a multinational that has offices all over the globe including in Germany. Have many good contacts on the other side of the pond.

But then every time I seriously think about the logistics of it all... Good Lord. It ain't easy.

I'd be homesick for anywhere else in the world if I had to live in Florida.

My wife probably wouldn't pine away for the Philippines so much if we were in Florida to. But then again, she'd still miss family.

VickyP, my wife is from the Philippines, living in cold and snowy Minnesota. Her family, the way of life, the weather, the foods, are all things she misses from her homeland. I've heard of some people that never really get over missing home, it gets easier for them, but they never get over it. I think even if you had weather closer to your home weather, you'd focus on other things that are not the same. My wife's mother gave her advice, which my wife has never really taken but it was good advice, learn to love the things and people where you live. Once you love those things, the missing home will fade away. My mother in law's grandfather gave her that advice when she moved away from her island, and it served her well in her life as she was able to take it to heart. But then she was still in the same country at least, so maybe a little easier laughing.gif

My wife feels the same. In most cases with international marriages, someone is going to have to make the bigger sacrifice, especially when going from 1st world to 1st world. You're doing what you can by staying busy which is probably all you can do. Hopefully, it will get better, you're not alone!
