Hi everyone,

Next month, I am applying for naturalization on the basis of marriage to my USC spouse. Besides evidence that my spouse has been a US citizen for the last 3 years, our marriage certificate and proof of filed taxes how much other evidence is required?

According to N-400 instructions I must include one of the following:

  • Documents referring to you and your spouse:

- Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children; or

- Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past 3 years; or

- An IRS tax return transcript for the last 3 years.

If I go with option #3 and send tax transcripts for the last 3 years do I have to send bank account statements, bills, leases etc. as well? How much evidence of that kind is required? Does it have to cover the entire period of marriage like ROC evidence?

Also, does anyone know when will tax transcripts for 2013 be available? I filed 2013 taxes a few weeks ago and just got my tax return last week. So far I only have tax transcripts for 2011 and 2012 (I didn't file taxes in 2010 as I immigrated to the US in December 2010). If I can't get a tax transcript in time how do I go about obtaining an IRS certified copy of the tax form?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My Immigration Journey:

K1: June 2010 - December 2010

AOS: April 2011 - June 2011

ROC: April 2013 - August 2013

Naturalization: March 2014 - August 2014

We filed taxes Jan 31, and I was able to download my tax transcript for 2013 already, I tried a few days after receiving the refund.

I am hoping 3 years of tax transcripts will be enough, it would be a pain to print the lease and bank accounts.. So much wasted paper again! Lol.

I am also applying next month. I remember your username from aos days :)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

Yes, I remember you too, I think we both applied for AOS in the same month. :)

It's good to know that you were able to get a transcript already. I tried a few days ago and it said it wasn't available yet. I'll try again in a few days.

To be honest I sent in my package my return taxes, 2 bank statements, 2 utility bills and my marriage certificate, kids and wife's birth certificate. In the interview I took 2 updated utility bills, insurance proofs for health and car. I took those because I know that USCIS well want to see if me and my wife are still together. Besides this is the last step do I done it just to get done with them lol.

I am including:

Marriage Cert

Birth cert of son

Husband birth cert

Photocopy of GC

Photocopy of DL of me and husband

3 years tax transcripts

Lease

Geico Insurance Card

Credit card/checking/savings account summaries for 2013 (quarterly, not monthly)..

Maybe some photos of his deployment homecoming last July

I think that might be all.
