I'm leaving for Army BCT for National Guard in April and then AIT right after that. What do I need to do before I leave regarding paperwork to be able to Naturalize during Basic? Some people say get your fingerprints done and other said they'll take care of everything during basic?

Thanks

Army is great for naturalization during basic. They supposedly take care of everyone who wishes to naturalize right there during BCT. I would go ahead and fill out the N400 and N426 to the best of your abilities if for no other reason than to have an example to follow there if you have to fill it out again.

My wife is in the Air National Guard and we had hoped that she could do naturalization at BMT while at the Air Force Basic Military Training. But they wouldnt do it for her. They told her they dont do that any more (with the Air Force). She wasnt much in a position to argue it when she is a new trainee there. They did naturalization for only ONE guy at Lackland Air Force Base BMT out of 19 who were eligible. It wasnt that huge of a deal though. As soon as she got back from basic we submitted her packet as a military member applicant, and it got expedited and she was naturalized the same day as her interview at a special ceremony only for military members just 2 months after applying.

But Army is much better about it, sounds like. Jusxt be there, and listen up for when they call for people like you. And....if you are close to a USCIS service center you can show up there with military ID (if you have that) and they can fingerprint you there too at no cost. But they will do it at BCT as well.

Thank you so much for your help. Hopefully they'll get everything done during BCT. I guess I'll have to take all my immigration documents as well as my passport and green card along to BCT. Is anyone who have a green card eligible for Naturalization through military? Especially during BCT? Because I'm planning to do a second degree thru the Air Force ROTC but I need to be a citizen to do a officer program? thanks

You need to be a US Citizen to get a security clearance. And you need a Secret clearance as an officer. Even as enlisted my wife was very limited to what jobs she could do through the Air Force, when she enlisted prior to naturalization. The only jobs she could sign up for were jobs that did not require a clearance.

Yes I do know that. I'm saying I'm doing a commission program right after my BCT. That's why it's so important to get all that stuff done during BCT or right after that
