congratulations Arsalan. Best of luck with the interview. Are you planning to travel to Pakistan to be there for the interview? I am planning to travel to Pakistan and be there with my wife for the interview. I am not sure if the embassy will allow me to attend the interview. i am thinking to write them an email and ask if i could attend. Let me know if you know anything about it? One more thing which is confusing from the IL is the Police Certificate. I did not provide one with the application and/or supporting documents. However, its mentioned in the IL at three different locations. My first impression was that its not required but its confusing due to this IL template. can you please tell me if you provided the Police Certificate or planning to take it to the interview?

here is whats in the IL about the Police Certificate

1-

================================================================================
*** IMPORTANT *** Interview Reminders

? Applicants may need to bring an additional police certificate to the interview. If the following three
items are all true, the applicant needs to bring an updated police certificate to the interview:
? He or she is more than 16 years old;
? He or she obtained a police certificate more than one year ago; and
? He or she still lives in the country that issued the police certificate.

by the medical office.
? Two passport photographs measuring 2 inches by 2 inches (5 cm by 5 cm) with a white background
? A valid unexpired passport
? Photocopies of all civil documents
? A new police certificate from your current country of residence, if you obtained the police certificate
more than one year ago.
? Any additional documents listed in the U.S. Embassy or Consulate specific interview guidelines

i provided one police certificate for my wife, which was only valid for 3 month. police certificate are not required for Pakistan, because pakistan does not have a national database entry for all the crimes committed in the country, so if someone commit a crime in rawalpindi and get caught, then his/her criminal record would be only in rawalpindi police station where the FIR was registered, not anywhere else in the country,

laws are different in each country, those police report and documents requirement are mention each and every persons IL. so nothing to wory about. they just remind you about those documents.

i am also going to attend the interview, attending the interview wont make any difference because we both will be ask to sit back.

i am also going to get a new Police certificate at the time of interview, eventhough it has not been one year since the last police report. i want to be on the safe side, and dont want to cause any delay in the issuance of visa..

i would suggest you to get the police certificate and take it to the interview, even though it is not required, but embassy ask for it.

i copied the following paragraph from the state department website to give you an idea:

Police Records

Not available. Pakistan has no nationwide tracking system in place for criminal activities. Police Character Certificates are available for a fee from District Coordinating Offices. However, they are not an accurate reflection of an individual's criminal record. An applicant who has committed a crime in one district may be able to obtain a clean Character Certificate from that district or another. Given the inaccuracy of these certificates, they are not required for consular processing.

thanks for the information. i will have my family arrange the police certificate for my wife. Are you planning to write to the embassy that you will want to attend the interview? as i am not sure that how does this process work?

nope, i am not writing to them and ask if i can attend. i will just walk through and if they let me in then its fine, and if they dont, not a problem,

and one more thing, if you know someone who have an approach in police department in pakistan then you will get the report easily within a week. but if you are just walking in all by yourself then try to get it in advance, because it can take 2 -3 weeks.

the best way to contact the embassy is email. you will not be able to reach them via phone. copy and paste the following link, but wait till your case arrives the embassy, otherwise the only reply that you will get is that there is no record of your case, etccc......

Emailed the Embassy in Islamabad and here is the response ....

"

You can come to our office on the day of interview. However, presence at the interview window is subject to the approval of the interviewing official.

We hope this information is helpful.

Yours truly,

Immigrant Visa Unit

Consular Section, American Embassy

Islamabd, Pakistan (KM-10)"

I think it will be fine to go to the embassy based on the response..

Hi Guys, I am waiting for case number from NVC. They received my file on April 18th but case number is not assigned yet. I was hoping our case will go through in 4 months or so to Islamabad interview but looks like it takes longer. We actually have already waited too long for i-130 approval. Anyways I am actually holding on my trip to Pakistan in hope that wife will hopefully come soon but looks like there maybe 4 more months from now? even more? If you can suggest I would really appreciate it. If there is at least 4 more months wait from now than I will probably want to visit now. Again I would really appreciate your input on remaining timeline for me. I had filed as F2A but now I have upgraded to IR.
