I do. I do give him $500 dollars a month. That is on top of my credit card bills. I pay for my phone and everything.

Almost like a real adult of 23 years old!

Maggots are not routinely part of a garden fyi. LOL

I cannot stand maggots but as they are a by product of flies on rotting food, routinely "flesh" I think a garden is fairly safe. ;)

Also I have a step-parent I do not like, however, as an adult I put on a smile, and do everything possible to be nice because that person makes my parent happy. Your mother will not be happy thinking her children hate her husband. Could be time to pretend enough so she believes it.

... you are 23 with a learner's permit and you live with your mother ... and a 78 year old guy hit on the arm when you did not know how to drive and messed up his truck ... and then you are here writing about it ? ... dude , I think you are the one with the issues ... not your "step-dad"

Get real! She is not winning or calling the police because abuse. She is acting like an adult by posting the event and asking others advice. She never said his truck was Messed Up but said she hit some blocks. She was chain sawing wood from a fallen tree and asked to drive the truck. Good job girl by taking initiative. Forget the jealous trolls.

Start a garden? LOL.

Btw how old is your Mother? Someone said the 78yr old guy was forced to care for you. Im guessing your Mom is like 40 something?

A 23 year old ""has no business" living, under the same rof as his parents, (even-step dad).,., that is a complete no-no!

WHY are you there, this would not have happen, he is an old man, as I am becoming, things are not the same to older to senior people, why are you not working, and making your own life? Then this would not have happened.

No, there is no excuse for hitting you, but, ""just how hard can a 78 year oldman hit you IN THE ARM".,.,.,.

This comes down to one thing, you have not offered anything else to say why the whole family is thinking of moving out,,.,..,.BUT you and any OTHER juviniles.,.,.,,.have NO BUSINESS there, at your ages!

Get off your a--, and go to work! Stop living as a parasite on the household!

It is the stress of the young adults, living at home that should be on their own, that has caused all this trouble i the first place.,.,.,young adults still "sponging off their parents".,.,..,,..CAUSE THESE KIND OF PROBLEMS!

I know sir. Actually on Monday, my mom and I will go to her lawyer for consultation since she also wants to move out along with us.

I don't believe you want to wreck your Mothers house just because of your subjective hate towards your step dad..

Dont wreck your Moms married life. Separation will be traumatic for her, don't gift her that.

Your step dad has in clear terms told that he had taken more than he could chew, so don't be shameless and still carry on being a burden for him.

I would suggest you alone should move out on good terms with your step dad and live like hundreds of youngsters living independently in the city, it wont be a big deal.

Later you can see how things pan out and may be your brother(s) can join you if they too have tough time handling your step dad.

Leave your Mom and sisters in that house, let them live like a family till the time it is manageable. Dont pollute their minds, let your mom give this relationship enough time.

I have a few things to point out. 1) He is elderly. Elderly people are often on medications that can cause them to act irrationally. I know this because my dad, who was 71 when he passed two weeks ago, was normally a calm and gentle man. Because of his medications...in the last few years, he would lose his cool easily. It was something we understood and dealt with. 2) He is elderly...78 years old and cutting down trees and moving wood. He was probably exhausted and stressed. Cut him a break. 3) He's elderly....78 years old and you're 23?? Seriously guy, how much did it actually hurt?

Honestly, if he was constantly yelling and screaming and abusing the people in the house, then I would say there is a problem. But you all seem to be adults, so its time to sit down and TALK....like adults.

Good luck.

Since when did punching anyone for any reason become acceptable? Since when is age an excuse? I'm sorry, but as a social worker who routinely travels from nursing home to nursing home, when ANY resident hits ANY other resident (regardless of age), we have to report it as abuse.

Do any of you know the circumstances about why this guy lives with his mom and the 78 year old? It's actually pretty common place in this economy for people in their twenties to live at home. And to belittle someone because their dreams of going to fashion school are essentially too girlie for you? It's just shameful.

This thread is seriously just sad. The poster, the responses, just sad.

I don't think its acceptable....I just think there could be a REASON for him to act like he is. Which is why I suggest they sit and talk like adults. I'm sure its quite a stressful situation for the whole family. Talking about things, whether alone, or with a counselor would be a great way to get to the bottom of the situation and maybe work towards a solution.
