1. We live in Long Island, NY. After sending our stuff to the Chicago lockbox, where will our applications go? Back to Vermont? NY central office,? ( I've just noticed they are processing Dec 2005!) or a mixture..Vermont seems to do EAD but not the AOS . Im a bit confused.

2. The step by step guideline states to get married, go back to SSN and change name then adjust status. Im assuming the SSN number will not change and I do not actually have to have the new card in hand before submitting AOS.?? I dont want to waste that week when they will not be processing my papers for a few months if not more and my married name will be in the system.

We will be married this friday, plan to go to SS Monday and mail AOS tuesday.. This is ok???

cheers

1) Your local district office, there are a few NY offices so will probably be the one closest to your home.

2) Should be fine to change your name with the local SS office, however some people have had problems with this until they get the EAD, just dont be surprised if they say you cant until you have that document. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding Friday... best wishes...

Just a quick question.. will you have the certified copy of your marriage cert by then to send with your AOS?

Thanks!

yes , we are getting married at the town hall in Manhattan...they issue the certificate at the same time.

I do already have a SSN as I was work authorized at JFK..Im only changing names to married name. When you say people have trouble, you mean getting the card the first time without EAD?

well yes, but also with the name change. SS offices can be really weird depending on whom you get to serve you. Some people who have had problems with such a easy change have gone back on another day and seen someone else. Hopefully they will just change the name easily for you.

Your I-485 will either be chosen to be processed without interview at the Califronia Service Center, or it will be sent to the New York District Office if you require an interview.

After being received in Chicago, the case is sent to the service center at Lee's Summit, Missouri. It will be assigned a number (MSC) and then later sent to the appropriate local office for processing to completion. You can follow it's process by email & touches by setting up an email account at the USCIS web site.
