Hi Everyone,smile.png

My fiance sent out our i-129f package to TSC on Dec 23, 2013 and we're now waiting for noa2. Meanwhile, I want to have a good idea of what I need to do after he gets approved, so I'm going over a checklist of required documents for the interview but am not sure about a few things as follows:

1. Original Foreign Police Certificate: Do I need to obtain this certificate?

I went to the U.S on July 2012 for an one-year internship program, and that's where I met my fiance (which was my bf back then). After more than one year getting to know each other, we fell in love rose.gifheart.gifno0pb.gif . Three months after I returned home, he proposed and then filed the petition. I didn't overstay my visa and am not subject to the 2-year rule.

2. Marital Status Documents or Single Status Certificates: We both haven't been married before, so Marital Status Docs do not apply to us. Still, do we have to get the single status certificates?

3. Original Justice Record Check #2 (aslo known as Police Certificate #2): If I'm trying to have this cert. first, how long does it remain valid from the date of issue?

Please help me!!! sad.png

You don't need a police certificate from the US. USCIS and Consular personnel are able to conduct their own background checks by accessing the relevant databases.

Thank you Todd&Hanh and Ryan H for your helpful information. You're awesome. smile.png

I think I'm quite clear about the answer no.1 and no.3.

For no. 2, I meant each of us is still single and hasn't had any prior marriage or divorces of our own. So do we have to obtain anything like Marital status documents or Single status certificates?

I dont know whether you need single status record , however I would recommend you to obtain it. The single status record can obtain in 1-2 days.

You also need to obtain Police Record # 2 and it will expire 1 year.

This record can take couple weeks to obtain.

NOTE: Both single status record and police record # 2 are not needed to be translated .

I went to the consulate for a CRBA and they took all the translations, they did want them. In Vietnam you can get a document translated for $5 or less. It's a cheap piece of mind plus I won't hand over any document I can't read; that's just me.

I think you'll be fine with the divorce certificate. Vietnam is a pain in the a-- with the single status record. If she has had more than one house book (residence) you need to go to each town for a record from that time period. It was the only thorn I had in getting married in Vietnam. Her first residence wouldn't provide the record without coffee money; tiny farming village. For the purposes of the K-1 I'm sure they would only require the last residence but the divorce certificate should be enough.

If you have further questions shoot the embassy in HCMC an e-mail. They have always answered my questions in one business day.

Hi Anonymous885,

Thank you for your recommendation. You're right that it's better for me to obtain that single status record even I don't have to. Also as you said, if the process only takes 1-2 days, then why not...smile.png

Did you submit the single status record and police record # 2 to the U.S consulate without translations? My consulate for interview is in Ho Chi Minh city. I heard some documents are requested to be translated into English, but I don't know at which point or for what kinds of docs you have to and for what you don't. Just confused....

Hi Todd&Hanh,

Thank you for sharing your stories and advice. I'm sorry for what you had experienced at that village. I really felt angry at people who made things difficult for you to have some money for them. I heard a lot about this and felt ashamed for what they have done here.

I did the police record in my hometown once before I went to the U.S and luckily there was no problem at that time. I hope it will be fine with my single status record.

Thanks

My fiancee got interviewed on 01/16/2014 without submitting any translation documents. My fiancee passed interview without any problems.

Read the 3rd bullets of appointment package on this link http://photos.state.gov/libraries/hochiminh/231771/PDFs/K-APPOINTMENT-PACKAGE.pdf.

If they require translation documents, then they will ask you to submit it in English.

For special cases: They did ask request me as petitioner to submit the timeline of relationship and list all my residences for the past 10years with original sign, sworn and notary in English.

Please correct me if I was wrong. People who interviewing recently are able to tell you more about this or at least verify my info.

Thank you for your explanation Anonymous885. It's very helpful for me.

From the link you sent, I understand they don't request Vietnamese documents to be translated into English except for some special cases that they might ask for. My fiance just stay at the same place in the U.S for >15 years and works for the same company. He didn't travel much except some short trips to Europe. So I guess it's not difficult for them to check things out. Let me see if I can have them done anyway if it's convenient in this little hometown.

Best wishes to your both happy life together.

I have been working in France for at least 3-6 months per year so the Embassy asked me to write down all my residences for the past 10 years. The paper needs to indicate the beginning and end date of the time period at each residence, and the full name and date of birth of each person residing with me at each address, along with a description of my relationship with the person.

I dont think you will need this paper as you mentioned your fiance lives in the same address.

I forgot to mention that the " Single Status Record " will EXPIRE in 6 months . You dont need to obtain it right now until the NVC receives your file. Also, I would obtain the Police Record # 2 after you got NOA2 approval.

Good Luck .

When I still was in Vietnam and applied for the single status certificate around Jun/July 2014, they did call and ask me to bring my fiancé with me to the appointment so they would do an interview before they decided to issue me the certificate. They said that's the government rule and that's how they always ask when you apply for the certificate. I explained to them that my fiancé was living and working in the U.S so he couldnt come to Vietnam with me just to get the certificate. Then they asked me to come see them anyway and they would make their decision later. When I got there, they even didn't ask me any questions but gave me a form to fill in. After that I just went home and waited for the certificate to be issued. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. They asked my fiance questions about me and told her she could pick up her certificate in few days. She also got her police #2 report the same day she went and didn't have to wait like everyone has mentioned before. Maybe that has to do with each persons location.

I'm not 100% for your country, but my fiancee from China was required to get the "No Marriage" certificate.
