Hello,

I am trying to get ahead on my NVC paperwork. I have a few questions about the i-864, the directions are a little confusing for me. I do not meet the poverty guidelines, so my mom will be the co-sponsor. My mom and dad file taxes jointly. For the questions:

1. Part 5: Sponsors household size - Obviously, me and my wife = 2. For question 7, "Optional: If you have siblings, parents, or adult children with the same principal residence who are combining their income with yours by submitting Form I-864A, enter the number here." My co-sponsor uses the same residential address, but they do not claim me as a dependent on their taxes. Are we a separate household? Would I still enter 1 here, since we use the same address?

2. Part 6: Sponsors Income and Employment (continued). Would I put my co-sponsor under Person 1? And then have my mom fill out the i-864a? Or would i leave this section blank, and she would just fill out her own separate i-864?

3. Do both my mom and my dad have to file i-864a (or i-864) since they file taxes jointly?

My mom currently works, my dad is retired.

Thank you in advance

hi

is your mom's income enough without your dad's, it seems that you all live together, right?

you file with your household number of 2, the i864, and if you live all together your mother can be your household member and on her i864A she would have 3 people

herself, your dad and your wife

she would have to send in copies of her w2 to show the difference between what she makes and what your dad receives

now if she makes enough for 3 people, it would be better if you filed your i864 and she file her own i864 and your dad can file the i864A as her household member

I am not sure what her income is exactly, I will find that out. I work seasonally and travel around from job to job when seasons are over. I spend some time at their house but mainly i just use it as a permanent address for license/car insurance/mail/taxes/ect. We have the same addresses, but we don't file taxes together, we file totally separate, so wouldn't that mean we are separate households, just at the same address? I know for a fact that with her income, and their savings account, it would more then cover my mom, dad and my spouse.

hi

even if you have the same address, right there is a discrepancy, because you have to prove that you live at the same address. your mail goes there, but when they check your address where you physically live, it's different from your mailing address which is your mom's

and taxes have different address as well, so how are you going to prove that you all live under the same roof for the i864A

in this case your mom would be a joint sponsor. you file an i864 for your household as sponsor, she files another i864 as your joint sponsor and your dad can file the i864A as her household member
