While things have gotten ugly in Kiev... My wife and I are keeping an eye on every development and news story

In the event that it is needed... (we don't expect it to get worse) What is it called if things get out of control there and we need to get her mother and sister to safety? What should I be reading for procedures etc?

Refugee Status?

Many thanks

Poland and Canada are considering taking in refugees. Keep this in mind if things get out of hand...

Hopefully the US will follow suit if it should come to that.

Go look in the MENA sub forum and look at those who have experienced full out civil war. That should give you an idea of what the options are to help her family.

Check the US State Dept's website for updates for the Ukraine.

Syrians in the US can take advantage of TPS. Ukrainians in the US may be getting TPS soon if the situation escalates.

Refugee status only applies if they are outside of the Ukraine. They cannot file for refugee status from within the Ukraine.

We just emailed UkraineEmergencyUSC@state.gov

requesting more information on how to make a plan if things escalate worse to assist family.

We will definitely be flying there to get family safe if needed.

I hope we get some more information soon.

Patient...if you would be so kind, could you share what response, if any, you receive from the embassy in Kiev. I, too, am looking at everything I can possibly do here to possibly expedite this process. Also, if situation worsens, will be traveling to there to make sure my loved are safe and taken care of. Anything at all would be appreciated.

If the IV Unit or the State Department decides it's an 'emergency zone' (My Label)

then

you, the petitioner, will be able to ask for (and get) an expedite

at

USCIS and NVC (if a spousal visa) with possibly some speed in the scheduling queue at the IV Unit.

But, ya gotta ask for it.

USCIS? an ISO, Tier 2 human, via telephone.

NVC? A Supervisor, via telephone.

Note each entity has different expedite processes, so bear that in mind when yer talking to a human on the phone.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Whoa Nelly ! Want NVC Info? see http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process

Congratulations on your approval ! We All Applaud your accomplishment with Most Wonderful Kissies !

Thanks Darnell....I have some thoughts about what to say from safety and financial hardships. Hopefully, based on the situation there, it will be considered and acted upon. I plan on calling. I will give a shot today, but definitely on Monday. I am concerned for their overall well-being. Time will tell. Not trying to circumvent the process....just want my family safe and healthy. I am sure we all want that!

We emailed the Consulate in Kiev as well to find out what we should be researching / who we should be contacting etc (theorizing poland embassy possibly)

Both emails have yielded automated responses so far which is unfortunate.

Our family has said that the streets in Kiev are deserted and strangely quiet and bus lines were minimal.

Sorry Fellas, I not know anything about Embassy Contact, only USCIS and NVC.

However, with that said, is difficult to ascertain where you 'are', are you certain yer official timelines here are UP TO DATE? Or even entered?

[yes, I did study, clicking the word 'timeline' under yer name here]
