It was poorly done, no doubt. And it came to a head after nearly another 100 years.

Not everyone joins gangs because of racism, you should quantify that as why do I think some black boys join gangs. Why do some white people join the KKK? In their case, its perceived discrimination. Something I don't think is isolated to white people. Everyone thinks they're the victim in this country. Fat people were born that way...... we know.

Black boys going gangs to belong to something. They perceive working through life the right way as rigged due to racism. Now, this isn't true on a grand scale, but we've proven that getting hired as a black person isn't the same as a white person.

I grew up around gangs, bloods and crips. It wasn't about easy money as it was about finding somewhere to belong. My friends that did join, didn't have money or flashy cars. They just wanted to be accepted by a group of people.

I think folks use the victim card too much, but I am aware that things are going to be different between you and I. No matter how I behave, there will always be a reaction to my skin color before I make a move or speak one syllable.

So, we'll continue to disagree about the word thug. good.gif

The statement that every candidate on the GOP side was all of that is just wrong.

You really believe there are 3-5 regular posters here on CEHST who are truly racist? I can see if you said two; but you think it might be up to 5. I just don't see it. There's probably more who are just ignorant and probably just one who's had bad experience.

I agree with you on ignoring the others and focusing on those you can reach. good.gif

That's both sides. Whites won't see a white guy as a thug because he's white. Black thugs won't respect a white thug enough to consider him a thug. He'll always be a pretender. You're forgetting, in some circles, a thug is desirable and respectable.

Not in the circles I hang in. But I know what you're talking about. It's ingrained into our collective consciousness. There's a woman at work, she in her late 20's, single. We were talking about finding her a man. She said I want a man with some thug in him. I went off on her. She's a mother and a working professional.

Black people are all about the gangsta culture but the irony is they suck at it. Hispanic gangs kick their butts wherever they go. And white gangs call themselves coosl names like NYPD and LAPD and NSA and laugh at all the little people of color gangs.

No lie. Nuestra Familia. MS13. They would kick the ####### out of any force trying to invade California.

I'll back my statements up with facts or links:

Here's what thug comes up in google image: https://www.google.com/search?q=Thug&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=gZ4HU6KYBIWSqwGOkYAY&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1139&bih=731

It's what we claimed. I hate it because it's how people perceive us, but one day I hope that changes:

As for the GOP:

Michelle Bachmann: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tag/michele-bachmann-gay-rights She is against gays.

Herman Cain: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/frame_game/2011/06/colored_judgment.html Doesn't trust Muslims.

Rick Santorum:

Yeah, let me know what he was trying to say...

Rick Perry: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/03/texas-governor-rick-perry_n_992712.html Not to mention his issues on immigration

Newt Gingrich: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/23/newt-gingrich-latinos-blacks-weath-gop-2012_n_1224939.html I want him to be my president.

I didn't include Mitt because he killed a large portion of his base in one speech.

I'd say five at least. I could name them. If you want go through my history and see my threads when I have to type paragraphs to explain why I don't use the n-word, yet I'm responsible for it, I hate rap music, but that's my fault, I'm generally well spoken, but folks want to use slang to address me. Those folks haven't posted in a while, but they're still out there.

Something that just thought of - the google image search for thug returned a lot of Tupac and people obviously tring to look like a thug. Is it the fault of society that this is how they choose to be?

As to VJ, I seriously hate it when somebody uses slang when talking to you. The assumption that they are making is demeaning. But keep this in mind - there are people who read here but don't post and maybe the way you've handled yourself has made a positive difference with them.

I think, that in some weird way, black people just want to belong to something that we can claim as our own. I don't agree with it, but it's something that's very deeply rooted within our beings.

I hope so. One day I can stop being black and just be an american.

Not me. I reject the whole notion of I just want people to see me as just an American. I just don't want to be treated differently bc of my race. I am proud of my rich ancestry and culture. I love my country too of course.

I'm far from a racist. Shouldn't judge me when you don't know me.

Now am I PC? No...... I make fun of lots of people and races, including my own. I just don't go around reporting people for jokes like some folks do.
