i wasn't shocked. i see what those middle school black kids do every summer when they're off school.

obv not ALL of them but enough to be a total PITA and menace.

ps. I live within a 5 minute drive of what even they call the ghetto.

there were white slaves in america, too.

just not as MANY as there were black.

I have no idea what that meant.

Okay, here's the lowdown. It's no longer about the n-word and white sheets. It's more about you're not qualified or you don't fit in.

Most folks think racism in it's most primal form. If it's not the N-word or something tangible, it's not there. That's how people make themselves think racism has pretty much gone bye-bye. That's why the word thug is usually used on black men, than white men who act thuggish. It's why the POTUS is called the Kenyan. It's why after 6 years, there's a nice group of people that still think he's not an American. It's why bumper stickers came out saying let's take our country back. It's why the justice system is rigged against people of color. It's why Coke got ripped when other folks sing American the Beautiful.

When you're outside the bubble, it's hard to see it. But talk to any sensible black person, they'll tell you what I'm saying is real.

I disagree about the word thug and the Coke commercial.

But if I give you all the rest; what percentage of white Americans are this type of racist? And, without naming names, how many of these racists regularly post here?

It's not about how many of them there are, it's about how many dollars they give PACs and how many comment they can write on a nice YouTube video about Malia at the science fair.

I think it is about how many there are.

Oh good another day of talking about Racism...

Not shocked at the event being that it occurred 120 years ago.

Shocked that people have known and handed down the story since then and somehow it didn't "get out" until now... Also amazed at the poor reporting and poor followup of the town where this occurred. The question is posed wondering if he had ever told the story to anyone else and yet the reporter interviewing the guy (who does not appear to be hiding anything) never bothers to ask.. And they sent nobody to search his home.. They just took the "sorry, looked for it, couldn't find it.. had it 119 years past the event but 120 years past? I think I misplaced it!"

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

White people have never been slaves? rolleyes.gif

Perhaps you mean white Americans? And perhaps you mean that the effects of slavery don't count after X amount of years? You go far enough back in my family tree and you'll probably find someone that was a slave.

I was not shocked about the knockout game. I am shocked at how rampant it "appears" to be.

My mistake, I'll narrow my field of vision. Let me put this in the proper context:

After slavery, what happened next? Then there was the blatant discrimination against anyone who wasn't white. Think about it. Black people were regarded as less than human, by the LAW. Meaning it was completely legal. After that, we had Jim Crow, more laws that targeted black people. Once that was lifted, you still have that lingering attitude against black people as a whole. We're talking hundreds of years or oppression and different treatment. That does wonders on a person's psyche. We're taught to hate our own skin color and love yours. Why do you think black girls want blonde hair and blue eyes? Why do you think black boys join gangs and don't care if they live or die? It's been passed down for generations, we hate ourselves more than we hate the white people.

It was poorly done, no doubt. And it came to a head after nearly another 100 years.

Not everyone joins gangs because of racism, you should quantify that as why do I think some black boys join gangs. Why do some white people join the KKK? In their case, its perceived discrimination. Something I don't think is isolated to white people. Everyone thinks they're the victim in this country. Fat people were born that way...... we know.

As AJ stated, American is what he said. That's the vision of America some folks share. As for thug, we just had this argument yesterday. It's become so ingrained within the black community, if you're not black, you can't be called a thug.

To answer your question about America, I can't say. But I'll give you a glimpse of what I see:

http://www.buzzfeed.com/evanmcsan/highly-racist-email-forward-found-in-scott-walker-investigat

This is the GOP of right now, not 1865. Look back at the last Presidential race, I pointed this out a while about. Every candidate on the GOP was racist, sexist, homophobic, hates immigrants, and Islam. And these are the folks that were trying to run the country. Santorum almost called Obama the n-word on camera while speaking. You also have Democrats that are racists. http://townhall.com/tipsheet/taylorcolwell/2013/08/03/charlie-rangel-calls-tea-partiers-white-crackers-n1655110

As far as this site goes, it's gotten better from when I first got here. I'd say at least 3-5 members I know for a fact are truly racist(yet they married women who weren't white, go figure) then you have some who are just ignorant and don't know better(1-2), and then you have the ones who've had bad experience with black people so this has shaped their entire mindset about us. Those are the ones I try to reach, the other are too far gone in hate, or simply don't care.

That's both sides. Whites won't see a white guy as a thug because he's white. Black thugs won't respect a white thug enough to consider him a thug. He'll always be a pretender. You're forgetting, in some circles, a thug is desirable and respectable.
