thank you sooo much!!

i called and the guy was really helpful.. he said if i have all the documents

what they need it will take about 2-4 WEEKS  till everything goes

trough and receive his US passport.. YAY!!

(report of birth abroad & US passport & US Social Security number..)

but i forgot to ask his something..

since damion will be a US citizen and a german citizen do i have to apply for both passports

or can i just do the US one.. do i need both passports when we re-enter the US..?

i mean i can apply for the german one in the US.. cuz we wont need that one any time soon..

i am confused..

For the purpose of entering a country a person/ baby needs to have A passport....obivously for the purpose of entering US it is the US passport that will make the proces of entering a lot faster, as opposed to a german one...

Check on the german procedures on how you can obtain a passport.... you do not HAVE to apply for a german passport now, however if you are in a position to do so it might be easier to get it sorted while you are still in the country as opposed to doing it through the embassy once you get over here

Sorry.. but that is not correct... Per the INA, all US Citizens must present themselves as US Citizens when entering the US... To do otherwise is inviting some big trouble.... the baby MUST enter the US on a US Passport... CBP has the right to refuse entry to USC's who present themselves as something else...

You'll only need the US one.

Check this link (scroll down to Germany, click on the YES/NO link) - good information to know in case you need it before you leave (always easier to do when in the country).

When we did our daughter's German passport, it took like ten minutes at the Rathaus. No problem period and it wasn't that expensive either. I have no idea why in the world you just wouldn't do the passport in Germany instead of messing with it later in the US.

I have to admit, I like using it already to pick and choose the shorter immigration lines in the EU. :P

Oh, and, yeah, you both have to be there, the father and mother. The baby has to be present to be presented to the CO. It didn't take long for the passport to arrive, but the SSN took the better part of three months.
