Usually the marriage cert, Evidence of CItizenship of one or both USC parents, and divorce decrees for both of you, and the BC of the Child is good enough...

For more information, please refer to this page...

Remember that you both must appear for the appointment at the consulate in order for a Passport to be issued...

The baby must have a passport of its own to be able to enter the US.. the US has only had individual passports for over 25 years now...

Since the baby is a US Citizen, it can only enter the US on a US Passport per the INA...

Babies can get their own passport in some countries. They do not have to be included in the parents one.

and how long does it take to get the passport..?

It should take a couple of weeks at least.... Expect about a month for the CRBA to go through...

Why don't you just call the US consulate in Germany? They have always been very helpful and I'm sure they can tell you in detail what all you have to bring along when you apply for passport and birthcertificate for your baby.

Here are some links from the us department of state on reporting a birth abroad:

http://travel.state.gov/family/family_issu.../birth_593.html

and the German US consulate on issuance of passports to children under 16:

All the best with the baby!

Inside the US, both parents must sign the passport application (to prevent one parent from taking the child out of the country without the other's knowledge) but I don't know about elsewhere.

Yes, one of the changes since September 11 is that all people including babies must have their own US passport. Good luck holding the baby up for his passport pic, it's really hard (my best friend had to get one for her son when he was 2 months old).

Yes.. the consent of both parents is required in order to apply for a passport for a minor child... or a court order to the contrary... and not when the passport is issued, but when you apply for it..

We laid our daughter down on a white sheet. It worked well enough. There's no rule that the baby's head has to be separated from the background by a great distance.

You'll need both.. his US passport when he enters the US and his German one when he enters the EU...

It would probably be cheaper and easier to get the German Passport in Germany...

For the purpose of entering a country a person/ baby needs to have A passport....obivously for the purpose of entering US it is the US passport that will make the proces of entering a lot faster, as opposed to a german one...

Check on the german procedures on how you can obtain a passport.... you do not HAVE to apply for a german passport now, however if you are in a position to do so it might be easier to get it sorted while you are still in the country as opposed to doing it through the embassy once you get over here

Naturalized! Yeah!
