Hello:

I asked this question in the passport section but nobody answered it, so I'm asking here hoping that I get some kind of answer. I'm scheduled for y oath next week on February 28th. I have couple of questions regarding filing for a passport, by the way I want to apply for just a book passport:

- I know that the fee is $110 for the US passport and $25 for USPS, do they need to be in money order form? or what?

- as I said my oath is on February 28th. Can I fill up the application online and print it out or do I have to wait until after I become a citizen? (Last step, I don't want to claim that I am a citizen when I'm not yet).

- What documents do I need to bring with me beside the certificate of naturalization and a social security card and my drivers license?

Thank you so much for having the time to answer my question.

I think certificate of naturalization and a social security card and driver license just in case , that's all what you need

You don't need to provide your social security card. The form requires you to provide your SSN, not your card.

As far as accepted payment methods go, you need a check for $110 to the Department of State, and the $25 acceptance fee can be paid however USPS accepts it. I think the DoS also accepts money orders. Just check on their website (link below). USPS told me you can pay by card, cash, whatever. Just call the post office at which you are applying and check with them, this isn't regulated by the DoS and it's entirely up to the post office since the money goes to them.

You should also read http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/information/costs.html (about two thirds of the way down the page) as it has all the info you need regarding payment.

This is what you'll need when you go to your acceptance facility of choice:

- Your DS-11 form, filled out but not signed

- A compliant passport picture

- Your certificate of citizenship

- Government-issued photo ID -- technically your certificate of citizenship, if it has your picture on it, qualifies, but your driver's license works, too.

- A front and back photocopy of the aforementioned government-issued photo ID -- the acceptance facility may do this for you and they need to see the original anyway

- The correct fee as explained above.

Lastly, since you brought up filling out the application online ahead of time, that's up to you. I guess filling out the application is not the same as officially claiming to be a US citizen since you can't sign it until such time that you are actually submitting the application at the acceptance facility, but I'm not a lawyer.

When you become a citizen, you'll get a packet of paperwork which includes a blank form DS-11, I just filled it out by hand (contrary to my usual practices) and plan to use that to apply (I actually have my appointment for that tomorrow).

You can fill the form online and print it out now and take it. You just need your certificate and the passport pictures. Most of the places accepts credit card. I paid with credit card.

Thank you everybody for the help. I bought a money order for $118000 and the $25 I'm gonna pay it cash. As far as the firm, I'm still debating with myself whether I should fill it up our if I should wait lol. Thanks.

Is that a donation to the DoS? Because if you don't mind, I'll take one, too. Consider it a tax writeoff.
