Oh darn sorry. Well when you find out please update your information for embassy. That's a shame. I know there have been a few interviews lately for your embassy hopefully others will come forward. You may have to PM them.

Go to the page and see recent approvals and send them a PM.

I went to the embassy website and this doctor is listed as the panel physician. Have you called to verify?

Hi VJers

I need information about Doctor in South Africa for medicals, if anyone recently has gone through it, I need name, location in joburg and cost.

Much thanks

Below is the letter we received for John's medical in October. His appointment fee was 2500 Rand. I sent 300.00 USD to be safe.

American Consulate General

Johannesburg, South Africa

INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS FOR VISA APPLICANTS

Every visa applicant, regardless of age, is required to undergo a complete medical examination prior to the issuance of the Immigrant Visa. The medical examination will include a medical history, physical examination, chest X-ray and blood tests for syphilis and HIV (Human

Immunodeficiency Virus). The completed medical forms, together with the serological and blood test results, will be given to the applicant in a SEALED envelope. The sealed envelope must be presented to the Consulate General on the day of your visa interview. However, please do NOT bring your x-ray plates with you as they are not necessary for the interview.

Kindly read carefully and follow the instructions below:

  1. Contact one of the designated panel physicians to arrange a medical exam. Please give the doctor the date of the Immigrant Visa appointment or explain that the exam is for an Immigrant Visa. The panel physician will advise you of the cost of the exam and tests. For further details about the medical examination, visit: www.travel.state.gov (go to Interview Preparation, then Medical Examination).

  1. Bring two passport-sized photos and your passport with you when appearing for the examination since, as indicated above, verification of your identity must be presented and the number of your passport photographed on to the X-Ray plate.

  1. Kindly arrange to collect the completed Medical Reports and the X-Ray plate yourself. It will not be forwarded to you. The fee for the examination (approximately R1,000.00 for the medical examination, excluding vaccinations) must be borne by the applicant. Please note that the fees quoted are approximate and applicable only to South Africa.

  1. Although you should bring copies of prior medical records and immunization records, do NOT obtain any vaccinations prior to your medical examinations. You will pay an additional fee for each vaccine that you require. If you have any questions about required vaccines please contact one of the three listed panel physicians for advice on U.S. government requirements.

  1. A TB skin test is required for all children aged 2-14 years (inclusive).

  1. X-Rays and Serological tests are not required in cases of children under the age of fifteen years, unless the medical examiner has reason to suspect that such tests are necessary or if a child has as positive TB test.

  1. Women who are pregnant are required to have a medical examination in connection with the issuance of a visa. Pregnant women have to provide the panel physician with consent to conduct chest x-rays. For the health of the applicant and her unborn child, the CDC instructs physicians and laboratories to provide abdominal and pelvic protection with double-layer, wraparound lead shields when they receive the chest radiograph.

(FOR YOUR INFORMATION: A Medical Examination Report is valid for a period of six months prior to the issuance of the visa unless you have what is termed a Class A condition)

$1,100 for the doctor and visa plus a little extra.. what an outrage!

Thanks, sorry I was venting

I had my medical done in November 2013 at Dr Cobb after receiving the email quoted above. I was told the estimated cost would be R2500. I only needed two vaccines so I paid somewhat less than that, but from what I know that is the upper limit of cost.
