My wife and I have been married for about 3 months and were surprised when we received notice that her interview is in a couple of weeks. Problem is except for one joint checking account mostly used for household expenses we have little evidence besides photos. I have yet to add her to my accounts for cable, power etc because she thinks it's silly as bills are a man's responsibility anyway. Even worse all of our bills are electronic so there are few documents besides medical bills that are hard-copy. I have other evidence like photos taken at the wedding, on the honeymoon and elsewhere but that's about all. Plus with the short time till the interview even if I did change the names on our bills there would not be time to get a hard copy. What evidence should we concentrate on? Any tips?

I would expect that they are used to seeing electronic bills and this is pretty standard today. If you are concerned about insufficient evidence, couldn't you add her to those accounts and then print a statement from the online account manager? How about some affidavits from friends and family?

Well in US most people believe that a legit married couple should have all their finances intermingled and bills with both names on. So in the eyes of the IO not having a main bills combined on both names might appear suspicious to him/her. But again I have reard cases on this foroum where people with same amount of paper work like your case have got it approved with no issues. It might depend on the IO's mood, how his/her day is going on, etc on how he/she handles your case. I have to agree with the person above electronic bills do work, infact have had taken print out of most of our bills as they are electronic. Also like the above person said you might want to try to get letters/affidavits from freinds and family. The more the better.

All the best for your interview. smile.png

Really? It seems strange to me that any couple would go to the trouble to add the other persons name to things like water and sewer bills, especially after only three months of marriage. Is that really what we have to do to prove legitimacy? We did go apply for a joint credit card which will hopefully arrive before the interview date but short of calling the garbage company, etc. its going to be hard to get much more evidence in the time remaining. Looks like I have my work cut out for me...

Hey,
I was just trying to state that based on what I have heard many other people telling on this as well as many other forums. It also helps to think from the IO's perspective on what will make it easier for them to make their decision hence the more the better. I am sorry if what I had stated earlier might have offended you or you may have mistaken it for anything else. The final decision lays in your hands on what you feel would be necessary to take to the interview that would suffice for a positive outcome.
You can check out the docs we took for our interview. Hope that it would helpful in your case.

It appears that you and your wife had been together quite a bit longer than we have, at least here in the US. It hasn't even been six months since she got here and not nearly three since we married so we haven't had time to generate all the paperwork you have. Plus many things have not been possible because of her status. For example I bought her a car (used but quite nice) but it's still in my name because my state won't allow those without a license to own a car and she's still working on getting her license. I really expected that it would be another three months before our interview and by then we would have had enough time to get everything lined up. I guess there is little I can do now besides change as much as possible in the week that is left.
